Listen to groov. With replacement costs not to many people want to rush into a 15 year old pdk out of warranty. They're solid transmissions and 3rd parties are starting to work on them along with some guys here making sensors. But, a 15k transmission is a 15k transmission. My clutch went last summer at 50xxx miles. 2400 for parts and labor and Im good for another 50k miles. I specifically had to have a manual for that reason. Manual not only drives like a manual, its cheaper to own so price goes up.

With my recent Hip Arthiritis issues I do however understand the pain involved in shifting for some of us as we age. Also daily driving traffic.
Even if I lost both legs I would find a way to drive a MT.
I've always used my P-Car for pleasure/aggressive mountain/curves driving/overnight trips w/wife and not a daily driver so of course my opinion differs.

My car had 2 "owners" that were dealers either being shady with titles or taking a long time to sell the car. One of the "owners"/dealers who I bought it from and they had it listed for $10k more than I ended up buying it for over 3 months after they posted it. During that time, lots of people needed to "check with their wife" or "secure funding" on an over 10 year old car. When I was younger in college, ZERO banks would give me a loan for an E36 M3 when they were over 10, so I assume that this is pretty common and why cars drop in value when they breach 10 years old.
All this ended in me casually sticking to my initial offer until the dealer considered it. When they did, I had the car towed to my own indie to do my own PPI secondary to theirs. Enough issues (tires/general maintenance) was needed to justify a little over 10k OFF the listing price, so I got the car at the price I originally offered because it had been sitting on their floor for months. the car had 15k on the odo and still smelled new. Basically, the 2 actual people who owned it before me stored the car for me since new and just drove it enough to only rot the original tires, which were still on it. It is my daily driver still and I love it.

cmon b911, he's got 17.5k posts here helping people against your 65. Lets just pretend for a second he knows a lot more than you ever will about these cars. A lot of us stated its a great transmission but it is what it is. The manuals sell faster for all the reasons stated, and rarity wasn't even listed with reliability. PDK was new in 09, they say only 20ish percent were manuals for the .2. And... you don't really hear about manual trans rebuilds. All our cars are getting older and you just don't hear a lot about it. PDK is great but an entirely different market, thats just quite frankly not as hot.

Some good info in the posts as well as some less than helpful posts...
As always, tastes/needs will vary for anyone buying a 997. A buyer should shop for a car that fills their prescribed needs the best.... coupe, cab, targa, manual, tip, PDK, 2wd, 4wd, GT3, Turbo.. etc....
There are so many flavors to choose from for a reason.
The sound advice provided is to get a good PPI that includes a bore score inspection. As Bruce has mentioned, these cars are getting up there in age.
And always make sure you can get in and out of the car before pulling the trigger.

While we're on the subject of PDK, I recently spoke to Porsche Indy shop in San Antonio who might be doing a PPI/Borescope Inspection on a 997 C4S for me.
Service Manager just got finished replacing a PDK transmission. Cost was $24,000.
He said this particular PDK had more issues than just the Sensor and had to be replaced.
.......He also commented that they are seeing lots of PDK Sensor failures and seem to be increasing as the cars age.
Their shop designed a special tool to replace the Sensor - The Sensor only replacement is $8500. Apparently there is a waiting list for the Sensor tool so they designed their own.

That being said, you do seem to have two topics that continue to repeat when you post ...
1. No matter miles or generation, get a borescope ... which on a 9A1 any unlikely damage starts at the bottom and would be hidden by the piston. If your advice is on a .2 car then I think you owe it to people looking for guidance to discuss bore scoring vs cold seizure plus coating metallurgy, warm up procedures, car history, and the problem of inspecting a closed deck design.
2. If you don't drive an MT, you're a pansy poser.
I've mentioned it before. I find neither of the above to be helpful or in any way.
I generally look the other way when you post, but yesterday things stacked up. I knew as I hit send yesterday that I would be saying sorry today. We all have a right to our own opinions. I'll try to do better as we move forward.
