Vid: Why the 997.1 Carrerra S is Special

I must be missing something since I can't see any semblance between a 997.2 or a 997.1 and a Boxster especially looking at them from the side.

And here I thought the .1 and the .2 bodies were basically identical except for the rear lights and a few other minor exterior items. Just curious what changed to your eyes where you have to look at them from the side to tell if it's a 997.2 or a boxster compared to a 997.1? I'm only asking since looking at the side of a 997.1 and a 997.2 from the side, the only way I can tell the difference is the wheels and the mounting of the rear view mirrors.

Your comment still has me scratching my head as well. 997.1 and 997.2 have basically the same front end except for lower intake opening and drl designs. Both 997s have round headlights while the 987 does not. When was the last time you visited an ophthalmologist, lol?

Def not as close as the 996.1 and the first Boxster, which shared the same headlights.

"The .2 has a brand new engine design. For car people this should be the big deal. Looks of tail lights and stereo buttons have nothing to do with it. For real car people who drive and know performance and driving dynamics will always concentrate on power train and chassis and the result of the two. "
Seriously ? I am not a "real" car person because I mentioned something aesthetically about the .1 that I like better?? Sheesh very defensive Floyd. No doubt about the points you made re the motor etc, I was not opining on that. I 've enjoyed my 997.1 for the past 18.5 years trouble free. Every time I thought about going to the .2 I cant get over the rear (lights); might as well go to the 991.1 . BTW I hate the change over to the rear grill on the 991.2 also, but yeah it has a turbo motor....
Now lets discuss cabs and tiptronic/PDK transmissions - I guess they are not real car people either.
Point is we enjoy the beauty of our 911's as much as the performance etc - how many times have u stared at your 911 in the garage or looked back at it when walking away?

The front end of the 997.1 looks better as well!

Don't worry, somewhere in the Porscheverse someone's looking down their noses at the 997.2. It's been part of the Porsche (and dare I say "car enthusiast") community since the dawn of time. 365 owners thought the first 911 was a travesty.
I'd love to own a great 997.1. I happen to love my 997.2. They are both great. And both are crap according to 993 users
At least we have 996s to look down on (I used to own a 996.2 which was also a great car)

Well when talking "looks", IMO the C4 & C4S wider body has much better look.

Agree with the C4 C4s comment and the dislike of the rear light bar comment. Although I love the wide rear, in my opinion it looks disproportionate to the front (too narrow) as I've noticed following one or two from behind in an adjacent lane. Wish Porsche would've flared out the front a bit as well , maybe like they did with the 992. I think the non-4s look perfect and wide enough rear to front proportionately speaking.
Anyway just my opinion and sorry to bring things up that you may now not be able to "unsee" .
