I think DFI is better... I owned both... but that is my opinion.
When they DFI came out in '09, they quieted down the exhaust sound for reasons I don't understand so I removed the new center muffler... but after removal, I am OK with this.
Peace

I agree with you Bruce. The quiet exhaust was required due to sound restrictions in Europe, primarily Switzerland. Porsche has always had a difficult time passing sound laws because the cars are tested by driving past a stationary microphone. Front engine cars go by it with the engind noise from the front and then the exhaust noise when the rear goes by the microphone. Porsche records only tire noise when the front of car goes by the microphone , when the rear passes the microphone all of the noise is picked up at the same time, engine and exhaust. rating is based on max db measured so Porsche will always lose in this game.
Also the DFI 997.2 is a "proper" 911, however the last real 911 is the 993.
It is all opinion.
Go drive your car!

The .2 is a better car. So many refinements. But, it is a tad too refined in some ways. That's the beauty of a car that has such incremental development.
You get to choose what you like. I love my .1 C2s and have thought about selling it many time. Then I drive it and do the Man math of what I could possibly replace it with for the cost that is anywhere near as good. So it'll stay.

I know the .2 is a 'better' car, but I love my .1. I only get to drive her every few weeks. Down the coast and in the canyons and coastal foothills of Northern California. I have full leather and adaptives. For that, on those roads, she's brilliant. I keep thinking about trading to a 991. I've spec'd my 992T like 25 times by now. Then I go on a brilliant drive down the coast early in the morning like I did this morning and just think 'why?'. How much more am I gonna get? My car feels perfect in the environment I drive in. I'll probably trade for newer at some point, but I still really dig my .1.

I really prefer the .1 as well. It's clearly of an era, while the .2 starts to straddle being "modern". I really hate how I can't tell if it's a .2 or boxster until I see at least the side of the car.

What I have come to appreciate is being happy with what you have, every generation of the 911 has pros and cons.
Which one fits your personality, needs, expectations and budget? That in itself is something special about the 911 series.
The 997.1 is quick and fast enough to keep you entertained. (0-60 Mid to High 4.5-4.8 Secs) (Top Speed 180+mph)
Handling dynamics are excellent with great feedback without being tiresome or the constant threat of snap over-steer.
Interior/Exterior design is timeless with enough creature comforts to still present a quasi-modern feel.
Exterior dimensions are right in the middle compared to the original 911 and the modern 992, and most at home on B roads/canyon roads without a GT car feel such as the larger 991 and 992 generations.
Do I feel the need or desire for a 997.2, nope.
Would I love a 964, absolutely, but again I am content with the choices I have made and intend to keep both cars for the very long term.
My humble 2 cents.

I like it better, too. I go back and forth a little bit sometimes. The .2 design definitely looks 'modern' and is very attractive. But for me, I prefer the unbroken design line sweeping down from the roof to the bumper cover and of course, that classic speedster rabbit-***!

The .2 has a brand new engine design. For car people this should be the big deal. Looks of tail lights and stereo buttons have nothing to do with it. For real car people who drive and know performance and driving dynamics will always concentrate on power train and chassis and the result of the two. The new .2 engine is without issues and has proven to be a real Porsche engine and has gone racing in all the cars since then. The .1 engine was never designed to go racing and never did. Sorta like the 914 4 cylinder. A good engine but not the Porsche engine everyone wanted. The no excuse legendary powewrplants of the 356 to rebirth as the 911 is the original 4 cylinder, the 4 cam, the Mezger 5 cylinder and the 9A1 DFI in the .2 cars. Thats it.

Don't go looking for a Metzger "5" cylinder engine as I noted above. Early morning error hitting the wrong button Metzger flat 6 cylinder would be correct. (dummy mistake)

Seriously ? I am not a "real" car person because I mentioned something aesthetically about the .1 that I like better?? Sheesh very defensive Floyd. No doubt about the points you made re the motor etc, I was not opining on that. I 've enjoyed my 997.1 for the past 18.5 years trouble free. Every time I thought about going to the .2 I cant get over the rear (lights); might as well go to the 991.1 . BTW I hate the change over to the rear grill on the 991.2 also, but yeah it has a turbo motor....
Now lets discuss cabs and tiptronic/PDK transmissions - I guess they are not real car people either.
Point is we enjoy the beauty of our 911's as much as the performance etc - how many times have u stared at your 911 in the garage or looked back at it when walking away?
