^^I had mostly 356 Pre-A and 356A cars - The 1959 models were special to me because it is my Birth year and what I felt was best Deco design
Did have one 1965 356 Sunroof - Nice driver

I was behind a 992 for a bit today. Not bad. I need to go drive one.

Had a few 997 and 991.2 and I have to say I too agree that glass roof is something I wouldn’t want in a 991.2 again. Creaks and is heavy.

but I wouldn’t buy a 991.2 again being that I sold both a c2s and gt3 both manual of that gen. Maybe I’m crazy dumping stupid amounts of money in my 997.1 c2s but something so much more special about the 997 in every way.

Interesting comment about the 991.2 lacking soul. I bought my first 911 - a 2017 991.2 S (PDK) last year and while it is a superbly engineered car, I felt it lacked the fun factor (is that soul?) and had some very annoying features, like the stupid e-brake and the fake pops from the sports exhaust. Sold the car 18 months later and have no regrets. My 2006 997 S (manual) is so much more fun to drive and nothing in it annoys me (except maybe the head unit).

There's a manual 991.2 T on the market now (they're very rare in my country) but I'm not really enticed by it anymore...

I've only done short test drives in the 991(2 Manual Transmission 2015's) and didn't notice that much of a difference in drivability or the assisted power steering.
For starters, steering and manual shifting are very different compared to the 997.1. More assisted and not as mechanical. Also, the naturally aspirated engine sounds and feels so much better in 997.1, IMHO. Then there's that lag in the twin-turbo engine. And the T is especially noisy because of the lightweight (thinner) glass and reduced sound deadening material. The suspension, although obviously updated compared to the 997.1, feels more jarring for some reason.

Overall, the 997.1 just has a ton more raw, old-school appeal and charm. Smaller, sleeker and prettier. Sure, the inside of the cabin looks old by today's standards, but for me that's part of the appeal. I just got my GPS-Nav working. I'm watching myself on the Nintendo GameBoy-like screen driving on roads from 2005. Love it. These cars, already classic, will be vintage quite soon.

(Totally agree with the comments above by TomiK, although my 991.2 was a manual not PDK.)

I bought and sold a '15 911 with glass sunroof, which I found unsightly. Really doesn't compliment the beautiful sloping roof lines of the classic 911 shape. Looked odd. Didn't realize my full dislike until it was too late. Then I bought a '19 911 T, which lacked soul, something I found in other 991s I test drove. There was just something about it that wasn't an enjoyable daily (and it was noisy as heck), but again didn't realize until it was too late.

Finally, I recently bought an '05 997.1 base with chrono package and other goodies. That little "sport" button makes a world of difference. What a blast. A true classic with a lot of the old-school 911 feel and charm, and just a hint of modern Porsche. Sweet spot.
Well put. Couldn't agree more.

Sort of like comparing the 993 to the 997 however I enjoy the creature comforts and design of the 997.
I'll have to test drive another 991 and really concentrate on the steering and manual shifting. It's been 3 years since I did the 991 test drive and I just didn't remember much difference between 991 & 997. Will have to test it more aggressively and on more curvy type roads. Most of my test drive was on straight non-challenging roads.

You made the right decision...can't stand the look of the 991 especially those headlights...the worst part of a very bad design! That 997 looks so sweet...big Congrats on your choice!

Took my car to Porsche today and I got a McCan GTS loaner...nice car but way to many bells and whistles...Jesus...next to my 997 it makes my car seem like it's from the Stone-age...but that's the 997 charm...you know!
