Default The Aero Chronicles - Build/Mod Thread

I have always liked the Aero body since it was released with the 996 generation. My first water-cooled 911 was my 996 Aero (Pictured below). Purchased in 2009 for a measly $23k from a failed real-estate investor who was deep underwater through some ill-timed construction (2008 Real Estate Crash). I was able to hang on to the car until 2010 when my wife and I were blessed with twins. It was one of my favorite cars to drive and look at, the Aero bug never left and I dove into Italian cars in late 2011. In 2020 I departed the Italian car Scene back into Porsches head first with a 2019 Cayman GTS then to a 2017 991.2 911.

In early 2022 the search started for a Manual 997 Aero and in July I finally pulled the trigger on this base 997 Aero. The Car was purchased with 18,500 miles and was equipped with H&R Springs and a Fabspeed Cup Exhaust. This car was on BAT in late 2021 and was sold to a local dealer in South Carolina then to a dealer local to me.

After driving the 991.2 back to back with the 997 over the next few months, I felt the 997 fit me better and the 991.2 simply felt sterile compared to the 997 Aero, I feel a lot of this was due to the PDK transmission on the 991.2. I decided to trade the 991.2 for a second 997 Aero. Again looking for a low mileage car with good service history.

In October of 2022 the search ended with me finding this 2006 997 C2S. The car was completely stock and featured some interesting options. The car had 14,988 miles when purchased.

I plan to modify both vehicles with OEM parts and some light performance modifications. This thread is a bit late but something I wanted to collate before the list grew too long.

Upon purchase of the Red 997 Aero, it received a standard service, including fresh fluids, belts and filters from the Dealer.

The Dealer used 0w40 for the factory fill. Drove the car for a few hundred miles and switched to Driven 5w40 DT-40 oil and L/N Engineering magnetic drain plug as far as preventative maintenance.

Mileage 18650
- 7.5qts Driven 5w40 Oil
- Mann Oil Filter
- L/N Engineering Drain plug

Suspension/undercarriage inspection resulted in very positive results showing no corrosion with the only issue was deteriorating front bump stops. This will wait as I plan on coil overs in the near future.

Mileage 18684

- BMC Filter FB156/01
- Inspection of Pulleys (oil/coolant leaks) No issues present.

Mileage 18699

Full Exterior/Interior Detail - Paint does have a few water spot etches, but in very good shape. I metered paint prior to purchase and shows 4-6 mils of paint on all panels. No indication of any body work.
992 Style 911 Rear Badge - 992.853.675H 042

Nice. Love the front aero kit bumper, a little less so the rear, but as a total package, very nice.

BTW, that red car has X51 headers too!

Very nice and clean! I just bought the Aerokit bumper and still on the hunt for a rear Aerokit spoiler. Hats off to you for keeping the chin spoiler immaculate, esp on those NY roads.

Thanks, they are both black now, hides the scuffs well. I had the painted lip on the grey car for a week before a recessed speed bump scratched it. I will keep an eye out for a rear spoiler for you.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm going to have the bodyshop paint the lip on the one that came with the bumper and just buy the black ebay one.

Btw, are you running spacers on the '08 GR? The fitment looks spot on!

Lovely combo, I'm partial to aerokits as I had to buy an entire other 997 to harvest the parts for mine (997.2 - in short supply).

If you're looking to make your gray car more special - I've got some extended leather interior parts that might pique your interest

Very clean!! Love the look of the red!

what website did you get that badge off of? I searched google and they all come up in silver unless that is just a tag for that part and not the finish.

I purchased mine through my local dealer. I have access to a wholesale account there. IIRC it was around $85.

Thanks, yeah they are getting tougher to get your hands on them! I started to add some Alcantara to the interior. That's coming, I am playing catchup with this thread.

Amazing! I plan on pulling the trigger on the aerokit front bumper shortly... since they are no longer make OEM rear spoilers, I hear getty design offers the next best option!
