Cost if bought as an addition to a 997S, around $17,000 last I saw it available.

So this piece of plastic tube for $255.95 is supposed to produce about 50% of the power boost of the $17,000 X51 OEM kit? I have to try hard to sense the 23 HP difference the X51 kit is supposed to deliver compared to my previous non X51 C4S so what will 11 HP do even if real? If Porsche has to charge $17K for 23 HP I'd be curious how Fabspeed can squeeze 11 HP out of this engine with a plastic tube for $255.95. If they can do it, why not double the performance and the price to $511.90 and deliver the equivalence of the OEM X51 kit at a $16,500 discount?
If you read the fine print, the kit doesn't deliver 11 HP but is "Dyno proven horsepower and torque by 11 whp and 2 ft-lbs when done in conjunction with a BMC F1 Air Filter".

So how much comes from the kit itself? Who knows, but I suspect not much and it's interesting that they don't show improvements from it alone.

Regardless, there's probably around a 500 - 1000% mark-up based on actual recurring manufacturing costs. PT Barnum was right, particularly since there are plenty of Porsche owners with more money than sense.

That's the joke I was making with my comment about turbos and air filter.

Yes, I guess i missed the fine print. Probably because I'm skeptical to begin with about these cheap power boost kits. As has been established for years now - here and elsewhere - Porsche has done an incredible job of squeezing out the power of these engines to the point where any meaningful increase beyond what's already been achieved has to involve a supercharger of some sort like the one RL member Petza914 has for example. Buying a $255 plastic tube expecting even a noticeable difference in power seems like a complete waste of money as I see it.

I was following an argument on whether using it persistently could do damage. Friend had a dual cold air intake and he kept getting CELs. He had a friend who installed the same on his 3.8 and no CEL. Mine is a 3.4 hence the reason I am asking.
Also regarding the actual air filters, is there a significant difference between BMC and K&N filters with this Cold air intake.
thanks!

I think a BMC filter is essentially a K&N without any oil so don't see how that can filter as well as the same thing with boiled gauze in it as that's what traps the dirt. Maybe I'm wrong - I've never had a maf failure with K&Ns in 35 years of driving cars with them and the main argument for BMC seems to be that by not being oiled it prevents MAF contamination and failure. I'll stick with the K&Ns where I also run a hydrophobic pre-filtwr over them to prevent water saturation in the rain.

BMC filters utilize oil also, no issues utilizing BMC or K/N on any cars. If you do get a CEL, they have MAF cleaner to clean any debris, oil from MAF. (CRC makes a good one)

In regards to the intake boot, you get a little bit better throttle response and a louder howl in the upper RPMs (Paired with BMC/K/N). Silicone also provides a lower thermal conductivity than rubber.

Thermal Conductivity:

-Silicone .15
-Rubber .5
-Steel 10-61 (depending on type)
-Aluminum 235

I’ve been using K&N too.
Is this “hydrophobic pre-filter” a K&N too?

I guess I’ ll go with the $95 option.
I just cleaned and oiled the K&N a month or so back. Car runs clean, but miss the sound.
thanks guys

Yes, they have regular ore-filters for people that drive where it's really dusty and the hydrophobic ones that repel water. You need to know your top and bottom filter diameters and the height and just buy the right size. They come in red, yellow, black, and blue so you can dress up your engine bay the way you want.

I used the kit from @Flat6 Innovations that I ordered from a Canadian vendor and paired it with a non-oiled air filter from AFE. I've driven about 4k kms since installation(same time I did an oil change) and no CEL.

Can I just use the hose and cap? Don't really care to change the filter as I not too long ago replaced with a new OEM filter

Probably Flat 6 Motorsports rather than Flat6 Innovations.
