That was @JustinCase , I sent him a pm not long ago because I wanted to get one as well for my FSI 4.0 Stage II that is due in October….he custom made that himself, which I don’t have the skills or time to do myself. If you can figure out how to get one made I’m good for 2 of them, one for my car an another as a backup👍🏼

Yeah that is exactly what I recall seeing. I wonder if we could talk @Flat6 Innovations into making more that is just for the 4.0 😁?
They only want to produce hundreds of something, and our focus isn’t on volume.
I gave up trying to have any promotional items. Maybe the next guys will be better at marketing and promotions than I am. It’s the thing about business that I hate most. I believe the internals and life spent creating the engine trumps a decal. It speaks for its self when you hit the throttle and that’s all I give a damn about.

Does anyone do this 4.0 upgrade purely as a huge preventative measure?
for example my car is a high mileage (110k) 997. I love the car. Certainly if I did the upgrade it would be much cheaper now than waiting for the engine to bore score and ruin a bunch of parts right?
Just curious if anyone has gone that route. Sorry if this is shifting the thread.

When my engines are available again, they will ONLY be offered as elective builds. Dealing with failures complicates the processes and with the proposed new program being full retail, on- demand sales that must be avoided at all costs.
The elective demand will remain stronger than we can fulfill, even if the economy tanks.
FYI- Since bore scoring doesn’t impact any of the components we reuse and doesn’t complicate our processes, we do not disqualify engines with scored bores. Anything more than bore scoring will be disqualified.

I went the same route with a build back in 2009 on the engine in my V-Rod, and it’s been 13 years of s*it eating grins every time I hit the throttle. Life’s too short to have toys that don’t do that

Great to hear. Thank you both. Maybe it’s something I look into for the future 😎😎

Elective builds are not dramatic. The owners can't drive their car right up till the day that the new engine will be swapped into it. That is the plan for FSI V2.0 at this point.
The reason why we can only do elective builds is because the new program will thrive from a circulation of high quality engine cores, so that means that even too many miles on an engine can disqualify it from the program, if it has not failed yet.
Engine production will be cut by 1/3, or maybe more as we build what we can get parts for, then go back to our aircooled days to make up the difference. I am trying hard not to drop quality in any way, but actually make it even better, and not have any schedules or timelines to deal with.
We have 14 months and 7 days to work out the details. Till then I have tagged the line and the focus is finishing every engine on the books in a very special way, while remaining on time, and on budget. We haven't gone up a dollar yet, and we've only missed two delivery dates since Covid started.. Both of those were due to camshafts, and I hate that even those two were late.

Well the day has come…transport is coming tomorrow to take the 911 to FSI. It is bittersweet because I have been waiting so long to send it to FSI, but I will miss driving it and walking out to the garage and seeing it there. Bear with me if I’m insufferable over the next several months lol. I may avoid Rennlist so I don’t get major FOMO…..but not coming on Rennlist is a hard habit to break as well.
But it will be worth it for the 4.0L Stage II beast I will be getting.
