Help with Potential Buy of 997.2
Need some help guys. I ran across a 2009 Carrera 4S with 28k miles and is in great shape. If I could buy it for $65k or $70k, is that a good buy? Car is a 2-owner car and is immaculate and has been garage kept. The car has absolutely no issues and drives great! Regular scheduled maintenance from the local Porsche dealership. Just need a little advice. I know prices are a little wonky right now and not sure if I should wait until the market settles out... Some duplicate info below but wanted to show you all the options. Thanks for the help.

I was going to say $65k is above market but I lost track. I ran my search and, damn, you are right. Prices are a bit wonky. $65k seems like a fair price. If THIS is your perfect build make an offer but another black 4S PDK won't be hard to find.

I really want a manual in red.... Car is extremely clean and well taken care of. I guess that is what draws me to it but I guess most of us Porsche owners take care of our cars as well. If I knew it was a good price and hold its value for a few years, I would buy it and then find my perfect car....

I know not everyone will agree, especially those that rightly praise the PDK, but if you as you say "really want a manual", just keep looking.
There's a lot of features that you might want and when you find the car to buy you'll be OK without, but giving up the rowing through the gears as you drive....... That's a BIG one!
I know that I'm not as fast as a PDK and that WOULD matter I guess in a race. But shifting the gears when I'm piloting my Porsche IS what having my dream car was always supposed to be like.
The days of shifting gears are dwindling. Don't let them get away.

Crazy times in all kinds of markets. Ask builders who need steel and/or wood for their projects. The list goes on. Personally I'm happy to just sit on the sidelines and watch the madness.

"I really want a manual in red...."
What Snakebit said. PDK vs. Manual is the biggest difference possible between 911 Carreras. Manual people miss that 3rd pedal and the feedback and control it gives you, but it's also a huge part of what we interpret as "fun." I doubt it's something you'd get used to.
I'd also mention the contrast between C2s and C4s is the second biggest difference. It's a much different front axle that has to drive the wheels in transitions. A friend had an immaculate 997.2 C4S and flipped me the keys on a Saturday when I was looking for a C2 a couple years ago. Beautiful car, but...I was pretty surprised at how much it was not for me. And my buddy kept it about a year. BUT, drive both! In the end it's a subjective decision.
My compromise ended up being a base 997.2 C2 over a C2S that I couldn't find after a 2-3 month search. I'm still all in on my car 2+ years later, no regrets.

Look harder, find your car with the perfect spec and buy it regardless of price.
Paid top of the market for my 997.2 in late 2019.
Every drive my reaction is, what a great car.
Never, ever do I think about what it cost when out for a drive.
Life is short buy the car you want and enjoy 😊

997 prices won't fall significantly again. If you really want a manual, find a manual
I'm a manual guy and would never buy a 2 pedal sportscar, no matter how good or fast the transmission is.

As most here know, due to recession in 09 - 2011 when we started to pull out of it there were fewer Porsches bought, and as the NEW PDK was all the rage, most likely 70 of cars were ordered with PDK...that leaves manuals harder to find, and throw in most cars were Black, Silver, Gray, you will not find many Guards Red cars (not like every 3 car in the 80's)
Don't forget there is another red- Ruby Red - that was available for those years. My favorite color of all, but I guess I am a little biased.

Just my opinion but anyone who's giving price advice and predicting future value of the car in this market is throwing darts or rolling a dice. Take your pick. I read an article the other day about used car prices being up by 45% over the past 12 months. House and condo prices are getting out of hand too in some markets where buyers who need financing get turned down since they're willing to pay more than the property appraises for. Same thing for those trying to get financing for a grossly overpriced used car.

Paychecks just haven’t caught up to the prices yet 😁.
I personally don’t think prices on things like these cars will come back down much if any, it would take some sort of an economic crash where people loose their jobs. The trend we are on is quite the opposite, employers can’t find people and are paying whatever for good people, people want “stuff” and are paying whatever for what they want, and supply can’t keep up with demand. The only thing that will bring prices down is if there is more supply and when you are talking cars that are 10-20 years old the supply of “good ones” is only going down. Couple this with the bar being set much higher for future wages and I don’t think we will see prices slide on things like this. The only people being hurt right now are those on fixed income and look at where they fit in this discussion. But yes you are correct, I am just completely guessing.
As for the car, I say buy it only if you can live with me being wrong and either taking a hit on it when you find the perfect one OR end up hanging onto it.
