Well my IMS is the ceramic type LN, not sure what other ball bearings there are. It could maybe be a bit of metal from not properly clearing a drill hole in if of the connecting rods?

Good point. There have been reports of metal from that process appearing after many many miles. How large is that piece?

Show that photo to Jake and see what he says it is, or @Porschetech3. Just my suggestion.

Any good DIYs on scoping from the bottom? So far I have accomplished nothing but seeing the bottoms of pistons. It seems any cylinders that are far enough forward the bottom of the rod is in the way.

Yes. Jake Raby’s video above in posts 19 and 49.

I can’t seem to get to them. He says they are on Amazon prime and I have a membership but can’t find them. The one on YouTube won’t allow me to play it without being a member.

That is unfortunate as, IIRC, Jake does an excellent job of demonstrating in the video both using a Steelman Electronic Ear to isolate sound and then how to snake the bore scope up through the bottom and past the crank and rod caps to get to the bottom of the cylinders. Hope you can get your hands on it. Best wishes.

You must be a Rennvision member at the enthusiast level to view the series.

$4.99/month, worth it for all the info

Yeah, I am sure I will go that route so that I can figure out how to get past the caps. I may have gotten too big of a camera though, mine measures 8mm and I came across a post from Jake that says it needs to be 5mm so that may be my issue.

It is the size of a pencil eraser or so. Mine is an 05 so there was no real process to replace the bearing.

I recall a post from someone who found something very similar in their pan a while back and we were all trying to guess what it was. I just can’t seem to find it, although I know that I commented, so it had to have been prior
to 2019 when my post history stops. It was a big thread with lots of guessing and I THINK a 997.2.

This thread describes two small pieces I found in my oil filter last January. https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ter-today.html
Dropped the oil pan after suggestions from other RL users and didn’t see anything unusual. Did another oil & filter change just last week (2266 miles since previous change) as a further precaution and the filter was clean with no debris.

no it wasn’t you, I don’t recall who it was. I am going to have to go back through posts. It may have been the guy who had scoring on the 997.2

That could possibly be Bronz's 997.2 4s which I now own. I haven't read every thread about the car so I can't verify we are talking about the same car/thread.

You are correct. He had a piece similar from his pan and a weird rubber bit.
