Same question on camera: BT or wired?

I'll keep my eye on this. Guessing it will eventual get across the pond.
I asked Nick a question and he is out of the office until the 5th for the Holidays. He was super responsive so I am sure he will get back later that week.

@jibmaster1, @Kitc2246 and @doclouie, I believe it is wired based upon this portion of a fact sheet I received from Nick some time ago.

Others may be decipher better than me, but anytime I see "composite" it would make me think wired is an option. YMMV.

Thx!

Bob

You can add a front and back up camera, both are hard wired. My reverse camera is activated by putting the car into reverse, this brings up the camera automatically whether using PCM or CarPlay.

The front camera is activated from an icon on the CarPlay start up screen I believe as I have seen the icon but don’t have one installed.

I use the car mics for calls and leave the phone still connected by Bluetooth. You can set up the phone to route calls by Bluetooth.

However I have the kit mic installed below the steering wheel (out of obvious sight) as this is needed for Siri.

Not seeing the PCM 3.0 on their website, just PCM 3.1+.

Do you have to email them to order the 3.0 kit?

The unit costs about $615 shipped to the US. This does not include cameras. Installation for just the kit is about 5hrs.

Nick emailed me the installation instructions so I can send it to my installer for an estimate. I have attached them here.

To use andriod auto, is it bluetooth/wireless or needs to be connected via usb. Also any main different compared to joeyauto version? Also seen good reviews for this unit. https://www.joyeauto.com/porsche-pcm...play-solution/

I do not believe Nick has posted it yet on his site.

It looks to me like this unit you cited is for PCM 3.1 not the PCM 3.0 our 997 models have.

Nick just sent me the updated instructions today and they are for the 3.0. He also sent me a PayPal link to pay. He will only be shipping units out on Wednesday of this week.

I used an installer in London recommended by Nick who have done numerous installs and it took the shop 3 hours to fit the kit and install a hard wired reverse camera.

If you have the right tools and know what you are doing this won’t take much more than an hour, the PCM unit was removed in about 10 mins.

Routing the camera cable through the car is time consuming, otherwise it would have been done in 90 mins.

Use a shop who is familiar with the PCM 3.1 install as it is virtually the same.

All the cables and the box are neatly stored behind the PCM stack, access can be gained at any time by removing the leather panel at the side of the PCM. Updates, wired CarPlay and charging can be done through the USB routed to the glovebox.

I use wireless CarPlay and have a MagSafe charger in the glovebox, this keeps the phone charged on longer drives. Modern iPhones are too large for the centre console otherwise that would have been a perfect wireless charging spot.

For reference I paid £300 + tax for the CarPlay install and £250 + tax for the camera install which included the supply of a high quality camera with a Sony sensor which is tiny and looks OEM.

Do you have a link to the camera you used? All I am finding are ones that definitely do not look OEM. My order will ship out this Wednesday and I will document the whole thing so people can see.
