Hah that is funny. Yes exactly, already being close to a 5W I just wonder what prompted them to change it. They will have to change their literature, have new bottle stickers made, and re-sellers like poor Charles are going to have to update their pictures and descriptions Jokes aside, no big deal and it will make no difference to me I just find it interesting they decided to change it.....

For anyone looking to upgrade or stock-up, Driven is doing their 15% off Labor Day sale - go to www.drivenoils.com and use code LABOR23.

I think I left you some

Thanks for the PSA. Had some sitting in my shopping cart at LNE.com for a week or two.

Edit: Looks like they are out of DI40 for the wife’s 987 BS until October.

Code probably only works at Driven directly and not an LN.

Now that I've switched to FR50, I have quite a bit of DT40 I'm going to sell to another 997.1 owner at a discount, preferably locally so we don't have to do shipping. Think I have 29 new, sealed bottles that I'd sell for $350 (about $12/quart), which is 25% off Driven's price of $16/quart. If anyone is going to be in the Clemson area and wants to pick it up, let me know.

Dang, you're not bringing that up to Wisconsin any time soon?

Hell of a deal, but I’m far from local and am also switching to FR50 this go round.

And I assume it only works at Driven as well, just I’d been intending to complete the order. Now I can at least get the FR50 at a discount.

Just an FYI, Summit Racing has 3 cases of DI40 left in stock after I ordered one last night. It seems to be in very short supply. I had a case on order from Jegs High Performance when they emailed me saying it wont be delivered until after 11/1/23. LN looked to be out so I had to go to alternate means. If you want it from Summit, I would hurry.

Thank you, sir! Just got a case from Summit and got $20 off, which covered taxes.

Why did you switch to FR50?

I was advised that it would be better for the higher stresses of my supercharged engine because it has more hot film strength and my 235k mile.pickup.also started showing an increase in metal wear.so I think that engine is wearing out and needs a thicker hot viscosity oil. I was also told that DI40 will be better in both my Cayenne Turbo S and my Audi Q5 that are both DFI motors as the DI40 is less fuel absorbent and I was seeing some fuel dilution in both of those motors.

Once I switched the DFI cars from DT40 to DI40 and needed FR50 for one of the 997s and pickup, it didn't make sense to stock DT40 just for my wife's 997, so decided to switch that over to FR50 too as.it has 112k miles on it, we.don't live where it's cold, and it's easier to just stick 3 Driven formulations for my 10 vehicles.

I don't yet have any UOA reports on the FR50 to compare to prior DT40 or on the DI40 to compare to prior DT40, but will in a few months.

Here is some historical data from an M96 motor in my 40AE. I also switched from DT40 to FR50 and have been happy with the decision. I think if you drive your car hard, you can see the improvements in viscosity. All wear has been looking good as well. My car seems to burn a lot of oil which would indicate bore scoring but wear metals tell a slightly different story and don't have me as worried. The April sample had one HPDC day on it. Also, per Lake's suggestion I've been using Redline Si1 as it has probably the highest content of PEA and you can see the big drop on fuel dilution on the last sample. It was always ok but now it's great. Injectors are about 2 years old and replaced with new OEM.

Just a simple comment ... oil burn doesn't have to be from bore scoring. Valve guides can contribute as well.

You're right! It's something I suspected but it's not something I heard much about on these cars. Would a leak down test confirm?

A friend had his engine bored to 4.25. When he got it back, it burned oil well past the break-in period. He sent the motor back, and they found a problem with the valve guides. While they were in there fixing that, they increased displacement to 4.5. No more oil burning. A beast of a motor!!!

For the record, this was a 9A2.

Thanks for the responses. I do have additional questions but will reach out offline as to not derail the thread.
