I found a 2007 997 twin turbo on Autotrader

Vinanalytics says this VIN is for a Tiptronic car with grey interior. The price is too low. They offered it to me for $54k delivered. They don't want to do a PPI, but offered a 7 day money-back guarantee. Doesn't matter if you don't get the car.

They are selling Teslas, BMW M3's etc at thousands below market. I went to street view of the dealership and called the number that is seen on the sign on the front of the lot. It's a different number https://www.google.com/maps/place/46...!4d-86.2395478

I called the number and a guy answered. He states his brother owns the lot. He laughed when I said Porsche as this lot sells low-end cars.

Somebody's going to get hurt here. Is anyone here in Indianapolis?

I’m in Indy but I doubt anybody associated with that number is here. I wonder whose photos they stole for their website. Almost every one of those cars is running a front plate, that they’ve blacked out, and we don’t have front plates in Indiana.

Definitely a scam of sorts - no way a 2017 M3 Comp would be anywhere remotely in the $40s

You've answered your own question. SCAM.

Any Turbo you actually want to own is around $70-80. The scam works because the price is just low enough that if it were legit it would be a totally sweet deal as they want you to act fast before you lose the car.

Yes way. Market sucks bad on those. I just turned in a leased 2017 M3 Competition Package in December. I could not sell it for $45k. I tried dumping it at CarMax and selling it to two friends with high end lots. CarMax offered $41k, friend in Florida offered &42k and my buddy here said he couldn’t even offer that didn’t even want it because the market was so bad for F8Xs. I just needed about $44k for the car. A couple other guys were trying to sell there’s for mid $40k as well 3 to 6 months ago and with zero luck. That said $41k with 6k miles is too low unless accident on Carfax.

This scam is better thought out. They find a real dealer, in this case, El Vochito which has been in business for 30 years but does not have a website. They use their address and a similar phone number. They even copy the names of the actual owners.

On the Tesla forums a guy got hit buying a Model X in Colorado.

Becareful fellas, I personally inquired on one of the vehicles myself and after doing some research things didnt match up. You wire them money, its gone. No way getting it back. The listing I looked at I was able to verify with the VIN that the exterior color is different from what the manufacturer has in their database. Becareful. These guys are taking so much money from people...

Many identical scams out there. Some are more elaborate than others. Usually basic diligence reveals it (plus the pricing).

Total scam. Been there and caught them as they never completely cover their tracks. A bit of internet sleuthing will reveal the truth.

Always wondered how these scams can possibly work. The only way they CAN work as I see it is if the buyer pays for the car one way or another sight unseen and then never receives the car. That said, it's impossible for me to understand how someone would wire perhaps $50,000 to a Craigslist stranger never having seen the car and obviously no PPI. But I guess as you say, some people can't resist a "screaming deal" when they see it and any and all critical thinking is thrown to the wind.
