Here's a 59 page thread on the subject. A little bit of everything but may still give you some ideas: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...he-wheels.html

Thanks guys for all you input ... much appreciated.

I found a used set of HRE 890R for sale. Anyone have these and what would be a reasonable price? 19in chrome finish 3pc. From my understanding, they have older and discontinued.

Thanks,

Yes, the HRE 890R's are an older model & have been discontinued for a few years. When they are new they sold for about $2k per wheel before upgraded finishes (which Chrome was). If I were in your shoes I would offer something between $1500 to $3,000 depending on the condition.

Thanks WheelsB - from the pics I have seen, they look like they are in 8/10 condition. The asking price is actually lower at 1300 for the set which below the ballpark you mentioned.

Thanks,
You absolutely DO NOT want chrome finished wheels. The brake dust pits the chrome inside the barrel, chrome rusts, and worst of all, it's ridiculously heavy. The PO of my car had chromed the RUF wheels that were on it. When I switched to the forged Champion wheels I replaced them with,I saved 8-10 pounds per corner on the car. The reduction in unsprung weight made the steering responsiveness much better as well as the suspension responsiveness and handling feel.

If you like the shiny wheel look, the polished then clear powdercoated, forged 19" Champions I have for sale are your best choice and a major upgrade from stock Porsche wheels in that they're both stronger and lighter.

The Marketplace For Sale ad has expired, but all the info on the wheels in it here

is accurate and they're still available.

So the 997 GT3 wheels are a direct fit? I didn’t realize that and really like the looks. Does anyone know how the quality/weight compares to the lobster forks?

Wife's NB C2S has the 997 GT3 wheels on it. Fitment is almost perfect. I tweaked the front and rear offsets slightly when ordering my custom Forgelines. Went a few mm more aggressive on the fronts 50 vs 53 and a little less aggressive on the 12" rears 74 vs 68.

I may need to add those to my list of options for replacing my lobster forks. Although those dang things just keep growing on me the longer I have them.

Default recommendation...

For as little as a few hundred bucks more than your 3,000 limit, you might as well look into Signature custom wheels. They have some beautiful wheels and they are custom made to the size and offset you want. I just ordered a set SV501s today. PM me if you need a direct contact there -- Terrance was very helpful in helping me spec mine.

They have a gallery thread here: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9712...-a-thread.html

Thanks,
As already established, those are older and discontinued. And being 3pc they're bound to be heavy too and the chrome finish will be a challenge to keep up with. That said, I think HRE is a good quality wheel. I bought a used set of P40's https://www.hrewheels.com/wheels/p40-series/p40 in near new condition for my -09 C4S for $3,500. Also discontinued but much lighter than the 890R's. Took about 8 lbs of unsprung weight off each corner of the car. May not sound like much but definitely noticeable compared to the stock wheels that approach 30lbs each.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't pay anywhere near $3,000 for a used set of chrome 890R's no matter what the condition but if they speak to you and the price is right, go for it.
