I have tried and tried and tried, but cannot get my top in "service position". Any suggestions would really be appreciated. A YouTube video would be amazing.

There is no try. There is only do or do not.

i don’t understand the problem. You operate the top until the clamshell is wide open position and then you stop. Done and done.

I cannot push the rear glass area forward as there are cables on each side. How do I release those cables?

These aren't shown in the images you have. I have a 2010 Carrera, I would be surprised if our tops differ, but maybe they do.

I could not get the rear glass section to lift up either, though the above directions say that a pair of cables need to be disconnected for that to happen. Even without lifting it I still could lube up the top's joints and rubber seals. Might have been easier if the glass was raised but I got by just fine.

Lift up the carpet. The cables have ball-ends that snap in place. Un-snap them, lift up back glass. Easy-peasy.

Well, I just tried this and honestly, couldn't find a single part that is in the pics above...sigh... even popping off the circular covers near the roll bars revealed something completely different looking, not even close to the pics. but I have an 05 so maybe things changed...

Mine didn't look similar under the circular covers, either, but I assume the shiny bit in the crappy pic I took is the right place to lubricate. I've got the lubes on order, and I can send some pics showing where to find the other parts when I dig back into it. They were a bit tricky to track down, but I found them eventually. Shoot me a PM if you still need them.

I figured out #2 and #3, but no matter how much I search, can't find anything looking like #1.. Any clues as to where to look? Thanks!

Yeah, put the top about halfway up/down, and it's hiding behind the fabric right here:
