Default 997.2 debris in oil filter

Based on my search, the consensus is that this is fine (normal?) for 997.2 and nothing like this.

I don't think it's metallic, ran a magnet across the pieces I could pick out and they stayed put. I don't have a magnetic oil plug.

The oil was changed yesterday by the dealer hence cutting open the filter today. The car doesn't use any oil, not smoking, no difference in soot produced between left& right pipes, runs fine apart from 'hunting' a wee bit between 700-800 rpm which might be caused by dirty air filter and the boot between the throttle body and airbox has two splits at the bottom (waiting for the new part to arrive from the UK). Car has 55xxx kms on the clock, 2010, PDK, basic C2.

Here are some pictures, they are the ones that I can 'successfully' photograph as other 'debris' might be just too small and difficult to see. The amount and distribution are limited to every 3 or 4 crevasses in the oil filter.

But, the main question, is this still considered normal.

I'd say it's just a few pieces of gasket sealant that have flaked away. Possibly bits of aluminum flashing from engine castings. Looks benign to me.

I'd say nothing to worry about.

Looks like the oil filter is doing its job. Normal, carry on.

Thanks. My previous 996's oil filters were always clean hence it was a bit of a surprise to see something present in this one's.

The piece in the first picture looks big - maybe it isn't. The others look normal. If you have oil from the filter or from the change saves somewhere, send it to Blackstone for a UOA paying particular attention to the ppm of aluminum - you want single digits. If no oil is left to send, do it next time and cut the filter open again to see if there are any changes to what you saw this time.

That's the plan alongside fitting a magnetic oil plug.

The magnetic plugs are good extra insurance, but more useful in the .1 cars to capture ferrous debris from the IMS bearing if it starts to grenade. The. 2 cars don't have a ball bearing IMS and most of the metal in that engine isn't ferrous - aluminum, copper, bronze, etc none of which are magnetic.

I'd like to see whether I'm going to have the same issue as in the 2nd link in my original post, as the debris were caught by the magnetic plug.

What do you think those specs are from if they are non-ferrous?

Sure the filter is doing its job, but they are still metal specs

@318touring what did the used oil analysis report from this oil change look like? Thanks!

I didn't get one done as all of the old oil was gone by the time I got the oil filter dissected.

Ok got it. If it’s any comfort, I found some carbon and non-ferrous debris in my filter at the last oil change (69k miles, 3k miles on the oil, see pics of all sections of the filter). Did UOA with both Blackstone and Speed Diagnostix, both came back clean I can post later if interested. I think one should expect some level of debris going by this one data point.
