does anyone have info on how to change the HU button mappings for an 8581 based unit (sadly, i purchased before i found out that 7862 was the way to go)
Hey guys,
Hope I'm not too much of a traitor being in this forum as a bmw owner
I was about to buy either a 7862 or even snapdragon based HU from owtosin due to them being the only manufacturer with a OEM looking face and an optical audio out.
Unfortunately the customer support couldn't help me with my audio codec questions. I want to know if those have aptx hd support or not. Being based on the same soc I think it is comparable. Can you guy if you own one yourself could you check if it supports aptx hd?

Welcome to the thread - good to see BMW driver keeps his eye on Porsche threads
I can't directly answer your question, but could you provide a little background info? How will you be playing music in your car? Obviously using BT, but how exactly, and why? Most (or at least a lot) who fit these Android aftermarket HUs use CarPlay or Android Auto and a music streaming app, or an app to play content directly from the attached phone using wifi. Is it right for me to assume you won't be using CP or AA? The obvious alternative would be to use the HU in 'native' mode, but again I can't see why that would entail streaming music via BT. It may be that your quest for APTX-HD isn't the best solution (but, of course) you may have a perfectly valid reason for going down that route.

Actually a very valid point just forgot that is an option.
I'm quite the SQ audio head and unfortunately Android Auto and carplay don't have the best quality when it comes to distortions and frequency band regular Bluetooth too. Those options don't have signal above 16-17khz. Also signal quality especially on the higher frequencies is not that good either. That's why I wanted to go the aptx hd route. But I can always just put in a simcard in the HU and just run Spotify native. That idea just went completely over my head thanks man. But now my curiosity still remains so if anyone has one of those HU hit me up

Yeah - you sussed the direction I was going in. I am an audio nut too (tube setup for music using vintage tubes), but these days I take a pragmatic approach. First, I know for sure I can't hear much above 10kHz and what I can't hear doesn't exist, but the biggest factor is I will be listening in an acoustic space so incredibly bad I couldn't make it worse if I tried - the inside of a moving car. But I take your points. I'd go the route you suggest and run from the HU with Spotify/Tidal, or download my playlists to the HU and do it that way. Enjoy!
I finally had a chance to work on installing the new Owtosin unit and am down to the last connections. Big thanks to @MattDevoCustoms for graciously answering my questions and correcting a few things I had mixed up.
I have the black and yellow from the MOST box spliced in, just need to do the red.
Where does this connector go?
This blue wire from the antenna needs to tie in to a switched power line, correct? Is the red ACC from the main harness the correct link?
I also have this gold connector but don't see it mentioned. It connects to a similarly colored port in the bottom corner of the PCM. Is this for the usb/aux/ipod ports in the armrest?

Is there a way to connect OEM microphone? Search was not my friend...
If you're ok cutting up some stuff, then yes! I used the stock microphone on the right side with a blue connector. My car (2009 997 Turbo with 997.2 PCM 3) had another microphone on the left side (white connector) that i think is used for bose noise canceling or something. Anyways, I removed the old blue connector plug and soldered a 3.5mm mono plug onto the end (like
Up and running!
Again, with some hand holding by Matt, I got the unit wired in and his firmware installed. I haven't run into any of the common sound issues, the only odd thing I've noticed is a little bit of a pop when I turn the volume to 0.
So excited to have a modern, very capable head unit. When the weather warms up a bit, I will try tackling the rear camera install.

THANKS! Any clearer instructions or photos possibly? I have tried a couple microphones and people say they can barely hear me or it is garbled. Have an Enfig mic arriving today I am going to try.

i used the enfig video to se how to get the cover off (need a long thin t10 torx) and used a long zip tie for running the cable.
Anyone else have trouble with CarPlay where the music volume does not go down when announcing messages or navi directions? Haven't been able to solve for that.
With the install of an Android unit we lose sound from the rear speakers. I would like to get the rear speakers working on my Bose system (Owtosin head unit) and found this thread that talks about bypassing the Bose amp and wiring the rear directly to the head unit. It sounds very easy....
1. unplug the rear speakers from the amp
2. run RCAs from the HU
3. Connect the RCAs to the speakers
4. Enjoy surround sound
Has anyone gotten the rear speakers working in this or similar fashion with the original system?
Is it really that easy?
Where is the amp located? I have seen different information about this. Some says it is in the frunk, some says it is under the passenger seat.

No you don't want to try and power the rear speakers from the RCA plugs, those are low voltage and low current. It won't make very much sound and may blow those output channels on your radio although they probably self protect. In order for that to work you'd have to connect them to an amplifier and then connect the amp to your speakers.
I don't know why you would lose rear speakers after Android install unless you're using the stock amp and the encoder that translatse your radio's analog out into MOST is not encoding the rear speakers.

From what I have read, virtually every MOST adapter handles only 2 channels which end up being used for the front. The loss of rear outputs is very common throughout this thread as well as the sister thread in the 991 forum. There were a few posts about a more advanced MOST adapter that some people with Burmeister used with mixed results.
