Default Brake flush tool options

I raised my 997 today to flush the brakes with my 4 year old Motul bleeder. Put fluid in. Connected it to the master. Pumped it up. Started bleeding the left rear outer. Some fluid came out and the flow slowed. Typical. I moved to the front to pump it up again. Brake fluid was escaping through the plunger.

Fortunately I have never trusted this bleeder so I have always put it in a plastic garbage bag before using it. I then set this in the plastic frunk liner. So while I had a mess I did not have a disaster.

But I no longer have a bleeder and I have not flushed the brakes.

Is there a better tool out there?

Is there a life expectancy on these tools that I went past?

Suggestions ...

The description says :

Designed for direct fit for late model Ford hydraulic brake and some clutch systems that use a cap with 3 locking tabs. Also fits many late model Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Hyundai reservoirs that use a 3 prong cap.

Do you need an adapter?

Motive power bleeder black edition here, works well, but I never fill it with brake fluid. Only top off the brake fluid reservoir when it gets low.

Thanks. My bad. Motive it is!!! Red label in my case.

I will order a Black Edition.

I've read that some use theirs as an air pump only. I just worry that I'll run the master dry and screw up the ABS. But this would have been much cleaner 8)

Glad my mishap occurred on my car. I would have hated to have this happen flushing a friend's car.

Again, thanks everyone.

Yep gotta keep a close eye on the reservoir but it’s definitely a tidier approach. For the motive, get some longer plastic tubing to bleed the fluid from the calipers. What comes with the unit is a joke, it’s like 8 inches long.

I measured approximately 200 ml. between the Max and Min levels on the master cylinder reservoir on my 2009 C2S. Measuring this out on your catch bottle will help prevent you from running the master cylinder dry. Yes, I have done this at least once on my car.

I have and love the ease of operation of the motive bleeder. I have the vanilla version.. not black. I've heard good things about the schwaben bleeder as well. In the end I just chose the one that's delivered quicker to me since I was in a pickle of a situation.

From an Amazon review => Yes. The red label model is a thinner bottle, has a plastic cap and no swivel in the line. All in all it's a much better, easier to use system. I think these three things alone add up past the slight price increase.

They make adapters for the different brand reservoirs. I have 3 or 4 - Porsche, Nissan, Saab, Ford.

When doing a single car I use the dry method, but every spring I pour 4 or 5 bottles of Motul RBF600 into it and do all the cars one right after the other in a couple hours. For that kind of volume it's much more efficient than frequently removing, refilling, and repressurizing the reservoir.

I ran my car dry once using the dry method, which sucked. Had to get the Durametric and do brake activations and went through 3 more bottles before I got the pedal back.

I used my Motiv both with fluid, and then dry just for air pressure. The dry method is way easier and less wasteful of fluid... and no cleanup. The reservoir is way bigger than you think. I put a flashlight on the cowl to illuminate the whole tank and easily see the fill line. There is a MIN line and I never went lower than it.... very easy... hard to screw up. I drained the tank first sucking a siphon using that cheap hardware store clear tubing.

Peace
