That's how my 997.1 C4 sold - guy briefly sat it in it, loved it. Only turned the engine to hear cold start. We met at his CU two days later and he test drove it after transferring the money. He still loved it.
Aren't the "middie" and pre 84 SC 911's considered the bottom of the barrel it terms of the G body coupes? I still would like to find a decent longhood to do a slow build but prices/condition are ridiculous.
Very interesting indeed - Guy/kid is planning to show up at T minus 20 minutes
What really is interesting is he insists on paying me prior to going on test drive - His exact words after 15 emails and 2 weeks of me putting him off was "all I want to do is look at it and go to the bank - I trust you"
We'll see if this comes to fruition....Should be interesting and the easiest Porsche sale in my 35 years if it goes down this way
Also, if the 911SC doesn't pass my PPI I may go after a very nice low mileage 2006 C4S
I'll keep you posted!
That is a bit weird. Why would he want to pay you before a test ride? Make sure that check is good.
Done deal - Happened just as anticipated.
He showed up, he looked over the records, Carfax and I also explained that it is important and should always have any high end car PPI'd for peace of mind prior to purchase but he insisted he was fine with trusting me and doing this his way.
We went to garage & he checked out the car visually and I insisted he take a drive with me which we did .Drove about 10 minutes and parked in my driveway.
We left in my Land Rover and headed to the bank.
Kid looked 13 but is 22. Nice guy and hard worker. Had very even keeled personality and showed major maturity which was nice to observe.
The bank is Boeing credit Union right next to my Wells Fargo Branch - All paperwork and cashiers check cut at BCU and I walked to 30' to my bank account - BCU also licenses & registers the car so no worries about letting him drive off with my license plate.
Just got home---> $$,$$$ in bank---> and he started car for the first time, adjusted the seat and he is on his way home
Here he is pulling out of my driveway - I'm gonna suggest he join RL as he is new to Porsche ownership.
To each their own but I’d keep the 997. My circumstances are different as I have room for only my car and my girlfriends car.
If another spot were to open up I would definitely add an older 911 or 356. But if one car only it would have to be the 997 for the comfort, reliability, power, all wheel drive and looks.
Lets be honest, at the end of the day you are deciding which 911 to buy. That’s a good problem to have.

Not all is lost---> I feel a bit sad the car is gone but for me, the hunt is more fun and I have 2 choices which I was waiting to explain.
The 79 911sc is a nice example and hoping it all checks out when I have PPI done next week when seller returns.
If PPI goes south, I will probably buy a very nice 2006 Silver/Black 997C4S w/53K miles - Sport seats, PSE and looks perfect.
It belongs to a friend and I can't go much into detail about it because I don't want to get my hopes up on it if 911sc doesn't work out
I'll keep you posted

Sad day indeed. On the bright side, when do you get to bring the SC home?
And if you do relapse, there are plenty of 997 cars out there. You'll find creative ways to clean up the garage to ensure there is space for another car and your hobbies.
When I was renting, I had a little detached single car garage and used to stuff in my 997, 2 motorcycles, a mountain-bike and woodworking/car tools in there.
Congrats! Glad to hear it was as simple and straight forward as you hoped. And nice to see such maturity from a hard working 22 year old kid!
How many miles did you have on this one? The 2006 C4S sounds nice too, so if the SC falls through you won't skip a beat - you'll only suffer a color change in exchange for lower mileage.

My 2007 997C4S had 76,708 miles on it - Lots of great options-------> I sold it for $37,000 - Fair deal considering it had new clutch/water pump/brakes and oil/filter 200 miles ago.
Also had minor front bumper accident in 2010 - All paint perfect/interior excellent

To each his own, but I can't believe you sold that car for an SC!!!!! Wow, crazier than I am for sure!! But then again you also own a Land Rover, which to this date is the vehicle I loved the most driving, but hated the most owning. So there's no way we'd ever see eye to eye on this, that's for sure.

My 2008 Land Rover LR3 is the most trouble free vehicle I've ever owned - Much better design than the earlier 1990's models - I've had a couple of those and they were problematic starting with the head gaskets.
