I have a base C4S and the one option I wish it had is PSE. I have a thread in the classifieds to see if anyone is selling a used set-up but as expected no response.
Going aftermarket is an options but before pulling the trigger I would like to hear them before buying one. I have been to Youtube and all sound great but hearing it in person would be something I would want. Not many around here to compare sadly.
In discussing this with local P-Car guys one suggest performance headers through stock mufflers. Interesting thought. This could add additional HP.
Has anyone on here done that? If so, any sound clips?
Thanks

I have a 2008 S and replaced the factory mufflers with Fabspeed Maxflos. Great sound, zero drone and the quality is 1st class. Not sure if the horsepower gains are real but it does sound faster.
If you don't care about the valved functionality of PSE, there are many aftermarket options with the Fister's or Gundo hack being the best bang for the buck - essentially the same pathway through the mufflers that PSE has in sport mode, but permanently.
With PSE, the valves are actually closed automatically even when in sport mode to provide for some additional low range torque that you lose with the more open or sport exhausts. If you think Porsche only does this for noise purposes and TUV restrictions, compare low end torque on dyno graphs between the stock muffler and aftermarket mufflers and you'll see that the aftermarket muffler graphs do show an increase in both torque and HP but it's at the higher RPMs and that the stock mufflers actually make more torque at lower RPMs. PSE or other aftermarket valved exhausts fitted to a PSE equipped car (so it has the Porsche exhaust control in the DME) gives you the best of both worlds, and the ability to quiet the car down when leaving your neighborhood early in the morning or driving next to a police car in traffic.
I have the full Fabspeed system on my car - J-pipe CAI, long tube headers, 200 cell Hi-flow X-cats, and their valvetronic mufflers (unfortunately no longer made).
Love it.
When initially installed - heat shield customization for the RUF rear bumper (you can see the valves open and close through the vents).
Custom RUF exhaust tips
Current state after 7 years of heat cycling and use.
Muffler valves visible through bumper side vents and how tips integrate with the RUF rear bumper
nice set-up! Nice car as well!! Thanks for sharing the pics. There are a few cars locally here that I am going to have a listen to in the coming weeks and then decide. Thanks everyone for the response!!
Question, Akrapovic is not popular option within 997 owners in NA? Reason: price, distributor?
997/991 GT3 and GT3RS I can see but for Carrera's not really? In Europe Akrap is option No1, of course there is price behind...considering endless warranty due to titanium 2nd/3rd hand can be found for fair money
