Update on cutting out... I replaced the main capacitors in the amp and..... wait for it ...gonna be big.... gonna be worth it.... here it comes..... nothing. Still cuts out. I would have bet anyone anything it was the caps. Yet again, I am wrong. So... what did I learn:
1 - I was getting the cutout often whenever I was playing the system louder than normal for a period of time.. say 15 minutes.
B - I pulled the thing apart and applied more thermal paste to the various touch points... Cutouts lessened!!! Actually became rather rare.
3 - I replaced those 8 big power caps... now it cuts out more!!! Yes more often. I should have left the thing alone.
New working theories: 1) I can't be trusted, 2) There may be a mechanical break somewhere as dicking with the thing changes its performance. I still think whatever it is, thermal expansion may play a part... but as I just demonstrated: what do I know?
I hate this thing.
Peace

Any thoughts would be helpful. Anyone look into a new amp? I have a Kenwood DNN990HD but have read the speakers are connected by optic cable.

Hey Bruce was the amp difficult to take apart and apply paste? Then again could it be harder than taking the amp out of the frunk without a schematic?

The amp is under the passenger seat. It is easy to remove, take apart, and apply the paste. You will see the points to paste inside. Mine was missing paste on a point on the back side of the circuit board... not that it mattered as I have no idea. It is worth a try in that it improved the cutouts for me... until I took it apart again and replaced the caps which then made it bad again.
Let us know how your interaction with Paulison goes... we only knew about Becker repair in NJ.

Al the capacitors I removed appeared to be in good shape . . . No obvious leaks or damage like I see in other electronics . . . doesn't mean they are all good though.

My PCM has started non stop rebooting.
Looking at various threads and posts, it looks like
this is related to the hard drive. Replacement has been
recommended in several posts. I took this
issue to my independent porsche guy at
Flat Six motor Werks, he told me it is absolutely
related to the hard drive and he has had several
replacements done with success.
I have CarPlay installed in my 997.2 and don’t think
I even need the hard drive. The way I understand
it, the hard drive is an option for maps to be included
for Navigation? Since the car play makes the original
2010 maps obsolete, why do I even care about the
hard drive? Can’t I just disconnect it and be free
of reboots? My Indy tells me the cost of replacing
and reloading all that is on it runs $1500 or so.
I am inclined to just disconnect it. I have an appointment
with the dealership tomorrow to discuss the fix/disconnection
issue. Your thought would be appreciated.

I know, this is just for a test. In my 2009 Cayenne Turbo S with PCM3.1, I had this same issue when Bluetooth was active due to a Sirius satellite radio OTA update they did., even though I don't even subscribe to the service. If I turned off BT, the PCM never reboothed. The fix was to take the car to the dealer and have them upate the PCM through every step from the version that was in the PCM to the current one and it hasn't happened again since, even with BT reenabled.

The .1 and .2 PCM systems are pretty darn different.... really weird.

uggh. so frustrating. 09 C2S Bose system without the USB interface in the center console. I've been experiencing the same sub-only sound after stopping for gas. Same resolution as others - leave it off for a period of time (10-15 minutes) and it seems to come back to life. I really want to do one of the "PCM 3.0 CarPlay & Android Auto Kit" upgrades as I can only use an FM transmitter to get streamed audio - which sounds terrible and whistles terribly! Has anyone done the PCM upgrade and have it solve the cut-out / sub only sound issue?

I don't have nav so I don't have a hard drive. But I still have the problem. I added the Carplay / AA board and still have the problem. Replacing the caps and adding thermal compound made the problem go away for about six months. But then it returned, but only infrequently.

I would settle for infrequently . . .

That is interesting because it implies the a problem may be with the head unit and not the amp.... HMMM...... I have "reset" my head unit a ton of times to reset this issue and that does not work. I wonder why. Someone here on Rennlist noted they spoke to Becker in NJ and they said something like "the system is not responding to a signal"... not sure what that is, but resetting the head unit (press and hold INFO down - .2 only) nor turning the unit on and off fixes the issue.... only time (about 15 mnts) appears to fix it.
The .1 and .2 PCM systems are pretty darn different.... really weird.
