Hey - I have a PCM3.1 out of the car - it keeps rebooting - I wanted to test it in the house. I gave it 12volts but will not turn on - How do I make it work out of the car. There are a lot of smart people here, someone must know??
I haven't read anywhere on this forum where someone has done that. Usually when they are rebooting, it's a bad hard drive. You may be able to save the data with a cloning tool if it's not too far gone. See the thread below.

Try resetting the system. With it on, press and hold INFO. This is probably one of the easiest things to do so it is worth a shot.
I’m resurrecting this thread as I never solved this last Spring for my 2010 4S Cab. After first experiencing this last April, I was able to generally get the stereo to working through the Summer and Fall. So when my indy did a year-end service before I put the car into storage for Winter I asked them to trouble shoot this. They told me that they found some water damage to the amp under the seat, so I’ve given up hope of solving this through anything other than repairing or replacing the amp itself…
After getting the car out of storage last month and putting 500 miles on it so far, I am not getting any sound of any sort. So I’m wondering if anyone has sent their amp out for repair or just replaced it outright? Thanks for any help and I’d love to get any suggestions for sources and/or costs for this before I commit to this path.
Would someone be able to outline procedure for the PCM (the amp/processor under the passenger seat) removal? Does the seat need to come out or can you reach it easily with seat in?

It was tight, especially unlocking the connectors. But you can remove it without removing the seats. Just keep trying, and contorting!!!
Both Wayne and I have removed this amp a few times and as Wayne notes, you don't have to remove the seats. Here are some tips IIRC... There are three screws holding it to the pan... you need to slide the seat forward then back all the way... and put the seat up high. The small connector is a fiber optic cable so be sure not to tug on it nor bend it. The big connector was a btch to remove. IRRC, you pull on the big ****... do this in private... keep pulling it will....
Just curious, why are you removing it?

Mine quit at first when it was well below freezing, then progressed to warmer temps. Now its a crapshoot no matter what the temp.
My plan is to re-cap the amp and see what happens.
So now Im totally confused. Thought the Bose amp ('05 997.1 that I am going to re-cap) was in the frunk ?
The issue we are experiencing, the amp cutting out after use, is unique to the .2 cars and appears to be manifesting itself in the amp/digital processor located under the passenger seat. The .1 cars have a very different amplifier/digital processor setup.
Update on cutting out... I replaced the main capacitors in the amp and..... wait for it ...gonna be big.... gonna be worth it.... here it comes..... nothing. Still cuts out. I would have bet anyone anything it was the caps. Yet again, I am wrong. So... what did I learn:
1 - I was getting the cutout often whenever I was playing the system louder than normal for a period of time.. say 15 minutes.
B - I pulled the thing apart and applied more thermal paste to the various touch points... Cutouts lessened!!! Actually became rather rare.
3 - I replaced those 8 big power caps... now it cuts out more!!! Yes more often. I should have left the thing alone.
New working theories: 1) I can't be trusted, 2) There may be a mechanical break somewhere as dicking with the thing changes its performance. I still think whatever it is, thermal expansion may play a part... but as I just demonstrated: what do I know?
I hate this thing.
Peace

Well...****! Mine is sitting here on my bookshelf waiting to hear from Paulison Corp in New Jersey (apparently repair the amp for $350ish). I can't get a response from this place and nervous about sending the amp without assurances they are still in business! But if what Bruce says is correct and the Cap replacement didn't make a difference, now what??? Thoughts, third party amp, live with it, stick of dynamite????
