Bruce has this pretty well pinned down to capacitors in the amp and he has a great explanation of how the amp works and why he feels the caps are to blame. But I don't believe anything had been proven yet.
My concern is that if the amp is at fault and I go through the expense of upgrading the head unit ... Well, I haven't fixed anything.
I've put the question out there before but didn't get a response ... Has anyone had this problem, replaced the head unit, and fixed the problem? If so then the amp isn't to blame?
Edit ... Still getting partial info on my phone so I didn't see the last four posts. Sorry for some of the repetitive rambling above.

Yea, I keep eyeing the capacitors because it is an action I can take. Other than that, I am at a loss for what action to take other than swapping units or sending the whole shabang to Becker. Since this is starting to happen at a higher frequency to folks as these age, I am hesitant to just buy another unit on eBay and get the same issue.

So one thing I have done is hooked up a noise suppressor to the power line to the PCM and I have note had this happen since. Not sure if it is related or it is just a heat thing and it is not hot yet.

I've got mixed feelings. And if the amp is our cut out problem and needs to be replaced I would have a hard time justifying using the original head unit.
But this does seem to be an alternative for anyone waiting for Porsche to step up.
Actually, this looks like I'm doubling up on the following thread ...

They indicate they have it for the 997.2 and the YouTube video showed it on a 997.2. It appears to be an add on box so the original screen and all the original controls stay in place and operate.

It is talking about not burning your carpet. Um excuse me did they have one that did burn the carpet and car to the ground. LOL. I am sure he will pay for your damages as the English on that site is top notch. Ha ha.

Hi Guys. Interestingly enough, the first time I had this issue I had woofer sound and no speakers, but since then I’ve just had nothing completely intermittently. This leads me to believe the head unit.
I do however have the amp from my old 997.1 Bose, you think this amp is the same on the 997.2? I’m curious because I could swap and see if that solves the problem.

Typical symptoms this morning for my '05 997.1 . . .
Maybe 60 degrees in the garage - no sound or sub-bass. Radio appears to be working, stations and songs id'ed.
Maye 62 degrees outside. Drive two miles. Stop for gas. Now the radio works.

Just don’t get it, it’s so random! But odd that it’s both on 997.1 and 997.2. Definitely a MOST issue... maybe who knows lol. Very close to changing to a new Sony head unit with a MOST adapter to see what happens.
