Default Windshield washer fluid?

What do you gents recommend for washer fluid?

In other cars I have used mild soap and maybe Windex. Im thinking Windex with ammonia might not be wise in the long run.

Heard some good things about RainX products.

Is six year old blinker fluid ok? Ha.

Thanks in advance.

If you live in the cold north use fluid that is good below freezing. If not use normal fluid that you can pick up at any store. No special fluid is needed.

Whatever is cheapest at Walmart that covers freezing temps(true). I change it every 5k miles and run a used washer fluid analysis(UWFA). I'm considering going with the new Joe Gibbs' stuff though(not really true).

Talking

Running a heavier weight -40 or -50 washer fluid is essential to the long term reliability of these cars, if you just run a 0wt washer fluid your windscreen can develop scoring, there seems to be no reliable mechanism to predict if your screen will be susceptible but some will tell you making sure the washer fluid is fully up to temperature before going to the redline with the wash/wipe is essential - others disparage this approach. There are some good videos out there explaining the problem if you google, maybe this is all an imaginary issue but we've not had a good washer fluid thread for a while.....maybe I should have saved this response until April 1st

Hmm, I send mine out to Blackstone for analysis. They have a new service. Since my car never sees rain, the washer fluid sits there for long periods of time. I usually have the dealer flush it when they do the major service. A bit pricey, but I sleep better at night knowing it is being taken care of by the experts

Your local dealer sells the proper concentrate, you can dilute with distilled water, or order it
HERE. HERE.

Or this one from
NextZett NextZett
which looks similar.

If you develop scoring on the windshield, send the windshield to get coated with nickies, helps the wipers glide over the glass better and prevent scoring again. Also can bore out the windshield wiper tank from 1.0 liters of fluid to 1.2 liters. Really makes a difference, thinking of sending mine down to do it.

I've heard that Gerolsteiner just pay Porsche for the Wash/Wipe approval - there are much better products out there, Gibbs, Evian even the formulated stuff you get at the local garage is better in the real world....

I don't particularly like either of the Rain-X products.

I use this

These replies are hilarious. You definitely don't want to use household window cleaner, it will strip the wax off your car. Any of the blue automotive stuff works fine.

Look man, I don't want to argue with you but if Porsche engineers say that Gerolsteiner is the best wiper fluid, I think they know best. + I only use OEM Porsche approved water in my system. I do not want to void my warranty or mod my car in any way---it's perfect as is!! Also, you are insane if you think I would put FRENCH WATER ON A PORSCHE WINDSHIELD!!!!!!!!!! Evian!? ARE YOU SERIOUS!! [/all caps]

Funny stuff! On a serious note though, I always used the cheap blue washer fluid from Kmart or whatever but when I started with BMW's and then Mercedes I ended up replacing washer nozzles on my cars after a few years. Finally a Merc factory-trained indy mechanic I'm friends with told me to cut open the bad nozzle I just took off and look inside. It was crusted with blue deposits. He told me to stick with the concentrate the dealers sell (or get it online for cheaper if possible) plus distilled water. I was skeptical but gave it a try. That was about 15 years ago and since then have never had clogged washers. Not a large enough sampling to be statistically accurate, but just thought I'd pass it on.
