Seriously.... if your 997 was totalled... what would you do?

It's a dream but I'd get a Panamera 4S in either black with beige interior or that brown with beige interior that just looks really nice.

I'd go back for another 997.2, maybe an S with the PASM, I'd take a look at a Boxster - I think I'd be tempted by a Boxster Spyder if you could find one...

Oh dear, after weeping copious tears, it'd take a lot of time before I felt like engaging in another unicorn hunt. 991 doesn't appeal apart from GT3. So it'd have to be another 997.2.

Interesting question!
I have just completed this very experience/transition.
My 09 C2 was totaled Memorial Day weekend this year. Fella in a truck (w/o insurance) lost control on the interstate and t-boned me in the passenger side, running about 80 mph.
Being it that it was my 1st Porsche I was pretty pissed. I was unhurt in the accident. He would have been hurt if officers would have let me once they told me he didn't have ins.
1st thought was to upgrade to newer P-car. Looked at 991.1 GT3 and Turbos. I honestly didn't mind the size of the car. I simply couldn't get my head wrapped around paying the price for a car I wanted to drive on the road, to the store, on road trips.
I was honestly pretty happy with the car I had. I started the search for another 997.2.
This time I wanted more power and maybe a newer year.
The 997.2's seemed to have crept up in price since I bought mine 2 years earlier. Still not in the price line of the 991 Turbos and GT3's, but up some.
I finally found a 2010 997.2 S with X51 package and low miles.
Bought it last weekend. https://www.ddwpartners.com/2010-Por...-85255/6531651

Hmmm...I am fortunate to have the space, so if my motor survived the crash, I’d buy back the wreck from the insurance company, buy a 997.1 roller and build myself new one using primarily the undamaged components from the two cars. Unused good parts would be sold. Fortunately or unfortunately, I have previous experience-built my air cooled RST hot rod this way.

Because you brought up Viper... I recently bought a very low mileage, 100% stock Gen 2 GTS (Blue/White, took a long time to find since most that are listed are salvage/rebuilt/turbo'd or otherwise trashed) after waiting 2+ years for a GT3 allocation... I wanted something raw/pure and different and it certainly ticks those boxes. I kept my 997.2 C4S too and happy I did... the cars are night and day.
Completely different animals to the point that unless you want something realllly different, I can't imagine it ever being a substitute or replacement for a 911. A complement to it, yes, but it really is something else completely.
If you're looking for a change though, of the 3 cars you listed, the Viper is going to be the biggest :-)

I agree, I had a 99 ACR and sold it back in 2014. One of the biggest mistakes i have ever done. Im still on the look for a clean not salvaged or reasonably priced 99 ACR. The are 100% completely different car but like you said how raw the viper is is such a fun experience and always gets attention.

After crying for a month and being impossible to be around, my car in its current configuration is essentially irreplaceable, not so much because I couldn't buy all the same parts again (heck, I've got a complete spare RUF R-Kompressor kit in the garage), but because I don't have the time to build it that way again.
I'd buy a 997 Turbo and do a RWD conversion on it. install Tractive suspension and DSC controller, redo the easy mods (steering wheel, interior trim, etc) and use the difference to get a Mustang GT350 to use as a DD.... or go in a different direction and find a 993 based RUF R-Turbo or air cooled 911 speedster.

I have thought about this from time to time because I really like my 997.2 I doubt that I would replace it with a newer 911. The newer 911's seem to be more about cushy rides, rather than the rawness I am used to after 40+ years of air cooled 911 ownership. I had originally planned to sell my 1985 911, which I have owned since new, but I think I'll keep it "just in case." Mike

Definitely
Definitely, but itt would be virtual impossible to find a replacement: mileage, condition, options. I would therefore probably try to find as nice of 991 S or GTS as I could find/afford
