Seriously.... if your 997 was totalled... what would you do?

It is an easy question for me. If my 997.2 S coupe was taken out of the picture I would find a 1987 or 1988 911 coupe in rough shape and do a bare metal rebuild with engine and suspension performance parts. I still miss my 993 coupe that had 21K miles on it when I bought it but those are getting up there in price now. Under no circumstances would I buy another P-car newer than a 2011 (997.2). I was shocked to see photos of the 992 rear end, front end, and interior changes. Now it is a two door Panamera. Very sad.

I was at the walked across the parking lot from the MINI Dealer to the Porsche Dealer in Baltimore Saturday, looked at three really nice 991 GT3s ...
I just don't like the heavy electronics dependencies in the newer cars, so I guess I'll turn to building an older model.
If you build it, they will want to drive it.

Would wait a couple of years and consider 2nd gen Audi R8, or 991 Turbo. Or consider a pre owned 991.2 base Carrera now. Either way, I would look for a car that is the same color as my current one (or at least very close).

Easy, already thought about it or if just flat got talked out of it. It's the extra car anyhow, so a toy. I'd find a clean but needing TLC 3.2. I'd send it over to my best bud that is one of the air cooled gurus in these parts. Go through the engine and trans. Maybe like up to a 3.5 or so. Probably have him rewire it while at it. Upgrade the AC too. It would have to be Guards Red.

I might struggle to find a replacement 9972 in this country, so I might have to look on the continent. I might be minded however to get a Cayman for my weekends, and then pick up one or two more project cars that I could work on and drive with my son, including for example a Lotus Elise.

If you want a mix of old school feel, but worthy performance and sound in a Ferrari V8 . . . try out a 355. Its the last of the go cart feel Ferraris, but it has sound and performance that makes ownership a joy.
