Default Noob - No A/S 19" Tires?!

Hello. New at this, having just bought my car in January 2018. Searched 16 screens in this forum without success. I am looking for all season 19" tires for my 2008 911 Carrera. No Sport or PASM....total base Tiptronic model. Have OEM MPSS on the car now, 235/35/ZR19 up front, 295/30/ZR19 rear - guess those were optional tires on turbo rims? Anyway, have searched Tire Rack and other online outfits and seems nobody carries a 19" all season tire. Baffled. FWIW - It's my starter 911.....if I like it I'll upgrade in two years, if I hate it I'll unload it and cut my losses. New tires may be critical to that decision. The car is my daily driver and I so want to like it, but it is absolutely bone crushing over bumps and bridge joints. Took a turn at a stop light at 15mph, uneven intersection, and the jolt sent coffee out the tiny hole of the commuter cup, across the seat onto the door, and shouted the "F" bomb before I knew what happened. We're talking Jeep 4x4 solid. Had a seasoned 911 owner and the owner of a local 911 specialist shop drive my car - both thought it unusually harsh, and the shop owner declared my old rock hard MPSS summer tires the culprit - nothing untoward with the suspension. My first 911 but not my first sports car by any means. But if I can't get a softer tire to make this daily driver 911 less medieval it's days are numbered. Help!

FWIW. I found these Toyo AS tires on TireBuyer...I don't know if they deliver to your zip code. I have Michelin PS2 summer tires that are Porsche OEM and they are stiff too...switching to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires as soon as these wear down some. Good luck. www dot tirebuyer dot com/tires/toyo/proxes-4-plus/p/TV190001718:TV190001851. Stan

What cold tire pressures are you running? That's your biggest lever for softening things up. Also PASM cars are softer in normal mode and stiffer in sport mode. It's one reason to get PASM in a base car.

Old, rock hard is your clue. Check the date codes of your tires. If they are 5 years or older, they are shot due to age and will feel like you have no suspension on sharp bumps. I just replaced a set of almost full tread Bridgestones on my 14k mile C2S due to age (2009/2013 tires) with new MP4S and it's like driving a Caddy compared to before.

Should've bought one with PASM then you have most of the features to add TPC's DSC box where you can customize the suspension stiffness in 2 different modes, dependent on g-forces and other factors.

This alone is why I recommend the S model to those that ask about getting into a 997, aside from the increased torque and higher resale value.

Have you considered that it might not solely be your tires? It is a 2008, you have a ten year old car now, maybe it is time to replace your struts.

I currently run Continentals currently on my 997.1 and after getting first hand example of the grip and ride of the new MICHELIN® PILOT® SPORT 4 S I will be getting a full set of them when it is time to get new shoes for it.

Best of luck.

I've been wondering about this. Anyone have success running pressures lower than factory spec? I haven't done it because I'm afraid I'm going to chew the tires.

Continental makes an all season tire that fits.

Is it true that there are 911 owners "on a budget" or "want to get better fuel economy"?

I'll quote a post I did recently on my quest to find A/S tires in another thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...l#post14912558

Nope, the one Bridgestone used to make was the RE970AS.. which they stopped making (at least in 997 sizes).
There is an RE980AS that's the replacement, but I'm yet to see it in 997 tire sizes.
No Bridgestone, No Michelin, No Continental and No Pirelli. It's almost like there exists no market for these
So there's literally noone making "good" all-seasons for the 997 now!

I was struggling to find a good set of all-seasons for my recent 997. My tires were completely shot so bad that I refused to take the highway.
So I settled for a set of Toyo Proxes 4 Plus (295 rears though).

They're ok for my driving I guess, and I haven't really pushed the car at all - will wait for summer to do that
This is the first time I'm running all-seasons on a 997, but I'm guessing it's ok for our weather here in the NW.
If it gets too cold, I'll stay at home, or take my wife's car. Maybe next year I'll shift to a summer/winter setup - we'll see.

I had a similar experience after purchasing my 2008 997 that came with 3 year old Hankooks. Harsh, loud and very bumpy on most road surfaces. Horrible on anything uneven like pavement repairs, etc.. I made the switch to the new Michelin PS4S and it changed everything. Really happy with the M's.

Before purchasing my 2007 C4S I was also concerned about the harshness of the ride. Just removed my winter wheel/tire (18 “ BBS with Conti DWS All Season) and put summer wheel tire back on(oem 19” turbo wheels with new Michelin 4S. The michellin’s Replaced pirelli with 20,000 miles. The michellins are an improvement over pirelli. Definitely quieter and more compliant over expansion joints. Still not close to the comfort ride provided by my winter combo. So I would say if you really want to make ba significant improvement in ride comfort, go to an 18” wheel with all season tires. Most people on this forum would consider this an abomination on Porsche. But if you want to drive a Porsche and don’t want the bone jarring ride and tire noise get rid of the 19’s!

As someone here also pointed out leaving suspension in normal mode rather than sport on an S car also helps with ride comfort. Hope you figure out a way to stay in a Porsche

Tire pressures are the key to a softer ride, set your pressures to the lowest recommended pressure by the car manufacturer.

Buy 18!inch wheels with conti dws06. Screw the haters. It's about the most comfortable ride you are going to get in a 911.

It will still spill your Starbucks.
