IMHO Porsche got tired of failures and finally had some spare change for engineering, thanks to the SUV line, and the 9A1 and 997.2 in general received a lot of effort and perhaps even over kill on testing, endurance, and life expectancy.
With 131K miles on mine, with the exception of a "marble" rolling around occasionally in the passenger's door, it remains like new. I have replaced a front axle boot, the front diff seals, and motor mounts (just recently) along with doing basic maintenance. In other words, the car remains effectively original.

I know that the 997.2 9A1 engine carried over to the 991 but did it made it to the 992?

Burning Brakes
The motor was changed in 2017 (991.2). Displacement was reduced to 3.0 and all "NA" engines are now turbo-charged. They now use an iron wire spray method to line the cylinders. The turbo motor is still 3.8, however.

Not directly meeting the OP's question but for comparison: I was on a P club outing with a guy who just traded in his 996 Turbo with over 500k miles on it. One of the techs bought it and had nearly 600k last I heard. Those Turbos had the legendary Mezger engines, but still.....

Wow!! If mine lasts that long I’ll be stoked. My primary reference for long term reliability is from a number of Porsche mechanics I know that say in their experience of working on 911s all day long that the ones that get driven regularly tend to have the fewest issues. These cars, it would seem, generally don’t like to sit.

By sit I'm mainly referring to garage queens that need maintenance performed when the prescribed number of months have passed rather than being due from usage miles.
