Oil leak at or very near oil filter (using LN engineering adapter)
#31
I had an L&N adapter on my 996 and had no issues with it. When you had the adapter off did you check the O ring very carefully to make sure it didn’t get pinched during installation? I think the O ring is the same as the one used on the factory canister so you might pick one up at the dealer and try refitting it.

Just a quick update. After I mentioned the 2nd time that it was still leaking, LN reached out to me and offered to send me out a new one, no charge, next day air. I declined and told them to just send it slow boat, as I know how expensive next day air is. Sure enough, next day it arrived. I have only driven the car 3-4 times since so I dont have any definitive answers, yet. What I can say is that the part went on much more "snug" which tells me that it is sealed better and so far there are NO leaks, what I can also tell you is, how awesome LN was in send this next day air to fix a problem. I would have NO hesitation in purchasing anything from them in the future!!!

Correct. The spin on filter adapter uses the same o-ring as the factory filter housing.
What happens is that if the filter adapter does come off the engine, the o-ring should always be replaced. That's why when you buy a filter cartridge for the stock housing, that an o-ring is typically included so that you do not re-use the old one.
That said, the only time we have seen these leak is if the o-ring is re-used or somehow damaged during installation (or re-installation).

When ordering a new spin-on adapter from LN, does it come with a fresh o-ring ?

So not to hijack the thread, but how do you fill the oil filter with oil, as recommended, and then turn it upside down to install it on a 997.2 without making a mess?

You can't. That's only for .1 cars. In fact, LN doesn't make s spin-on filter adapter for any DFI Porsche fitments. Wish they did.

Thanks for not flaming me. I am new to this car. Paper filter it is.

After requests, we did make one for the 987.2 and 981 (with MA1 engine) Cayman and Boxster. To be honest, it's not as popular as the MA1 engines have historically had less problems so owners aren't as concerned about changing from the factory filter arrangement.
