Default Bigger car in addition to 997 - Any alternative to Cayenne? Good Station Wagons?

Looking for a bigger car and naturally went for Cayenne... test drive wasn't that great and I got a lot of heat on Cayenne forum for calling Cayenne "heavy" which it is.

So, while I need to test drive more Cayennes, what other car could serve the same purpose and feel nimbler/lighter but as roomy? Only other option that comes to mind are station wagons, but we don't get many good options here in North America.

Any ideas? I am looking at used market, cannot afford a brand new premium brand right now.

Macan is great but too small. Q7 too big. SQ5 sounds interesting. Cayenne S was heavy, hybrid will be even heavier!

It is hard to call it small, but it is quite agile--Panamera

All the new Volvos are great. The V90 Cross Country would be my preferred choice.

Have to check how much cargo room it may have, but that's a good option too.

Right now, looks like Merc E400 Wagon hits all the boxes! Probably the best Station Wagon for sale currently on the market. 0-60 in 5.2 is fast enough for me.

Edit - try a GTS (I thought it much oomphier than the base Cayenne).

if 5,000lbs isn't heavy then I don't know what is. Somehow when folks buy a car they become very resistant to acknowledging anything that can be viewed as a shortcoming. It's kinda sad.

Hmm.. well I'm not sure what you're going for. I'd consider a Mazda CX-5. The larger car is the CX-9. They are supposed to be very reliable. I just bought a 2011 CX-9 Grand Touring for my mother last week. They handle well enough for something that size. It's got all the nifty features you'd want in a car like that, bluetooth, nav, backup camera, remote liftgate.. etc.

I love my Yukon. I guess it’s heavy but why does that matter?

I have a Q5 TDI in addition to the 997. Would have went with the SQ5 but had good luck with diesels and love the torque.

Had a a brand new Cayenne Platinum edition as a loaner while the 997 was at the dealer. Nice vehicle but it felt too big compared to my Q5.

We are on our second Q7 with first being a 2008 S-Line 4.2 V-8 and just bought a new 2015 (No 2016 was made) Q7 S-Line 3.0T. We test drove the 2017 but no S-Line available and seemed more cramped inside and with our options $80+. With the adjustable suspension you get a varied choice of ride quality and with tow package a must.

Land Rover. Its the only legit SUV and the only car that gets worse gas mileage than the 997. Every hates the new 2018 "Discovery" design so the LR4 and LR3 are becoming collectors items. My local dealer said they cant keep them on the lot for more than a day.

The Audi Allroad is a great wagon for the money. It handles more like a car. It has a 0-60 in 5.3 and if you like to tinker it has tons of aftermarket. A quick tune gains 40hp or more. Or you can leave it alone.
