Default possible 996 purchase - would appreciate some insight

all,

well i am much closer now to buying a 2001 996 - seal grey/black, 6 speed w/92K miles.

serviced at beverly hills porsche since new - owned by a non-porsche guy, very cool person but not a car guy - hes done all the proper services since he bought the car 10K miles ago in 2009.

very clean car with clean carfax and some nice options like full comfort leather interior, traction control and onboard computer. stock 18" turbo twist wheels.

he scanned and emailed the service records and the last time it was in the shop the owner complained of a clunking noise when going over bumps and it was suggested he have the trailing arm bushings being worn as the cause.

because he was selling the car he hasn't had this work done. he did have the coils replaced and spark plugs about 2K ago.
the IMS was replaced at 60K miles.

my question is what is the cost of the trailing arm bushing replacement?

anyone familiar with a good shop other than the dealer in west hollywood? didn't get much of a response when i posted the question earlier in the week.

many thanks in advance.

dude?
why wouldnt you just get Ackers (spelling) to diagnosis it and fix it here - you could even call him and ask for a "quote" over the phone of the problem you are suggesting

weird question - weird solution

I assume a clunk in not an undrivable car so if you needed to drive it home it might survive the trip

William, when I bought my '99, I had a similar noise and it was a bad drop link. Cheap to fix, under $50.

weird question? weird spelling - ACKERS? its AKERS

maybe this will help you understand - i need to send an email this morning by 7am to the seller and i didn't want to call denny or mark aker at their home at 1am last night and ask them costs for repair.

glad to know its a minor issue

but your question was also
anyone familiar with a good shop other than the dealer in west hollywood?

implying you wanted this fixed before driving/shipping home - so you would be willing to go to some unknown shop other than your good buddy here by your home - that was what I thought was very weird

looked like another one of your car deals with typical drama is all

wow don't you sound bitchy. i need a PPI in or near west hollywood to have the car inspected dingbat

just want to know what i'm getting into on the bushing repair - since you are so familar with my world, you should know i love porsches and buy a 911 every year or 2 and have been doing this for 25 years.

flipping?? not for the smart porsche enthusiast - there is no money in flipping especially when you are not mechanically inclined like me. with my last 2 cars that i sold(my 996 and 911sc which sold yesterday) i broke even - oh wait, i may have made $400 possibly i'll have to tally up the rebuilt transmission, new clutch and oil leak repairs on the sc.

nope, just like the housing market the only flipping that is done in the porsche world is having pancakes at the local I-hop

i must need some coffee.

do you know of any reputable shop in west hollywood? - i just called beverly hills porsche who i'd rather not use because they have serviced the car its entire life but even they are not performing PPI's anymore

Might need to check Pasadena area for a good shop or Rusnak Porsche dealer.
I don't know anything close.

No idea how close or far this shop is from the seller. http://thespeedgallery.com/contact.shtml

I bought my car from this place and can link you up with Sam Ahdoot there (good guy/great guy), active and known @ 6speedonline.

i went back to another post on the OT forum - swiss motors was suggested in culver city which is about 20 minutes from w. hollywood.

i phoned them just now and the owner marcel sounds like he knows his stuff - very familiar with the 996 so i feel that i am in good hands.

just sent my final offer to seller so i'll know soon whether i move forward.

thanks to everyone for their input

Damn Groov, What are you doing hanging out in Beverly Hills? Of ALL places I could not imagine of going to the Beverly Hills Porsche Dealership, do you have any idea what their hourly rate is?
