Best short shifter(s)?
I want a much tighter, crisper and somewhat notchy short shifter...
What say you is the best choice?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

997 SSK, period.
I've also experienced the B&M and the 997 GT3 shifter.
The B&M is TOO notchy to the point where it inhibits quick shifting.
The 997 GT3 shifter while much better than the OEM 996 shifter only has slightly shorter throws. It also has better engagement notch than the 996 shifter, but still not as good as the 997 SSK IMO.

I run a GT3 with Cup cables and Cup linkage without the counter weight, absolutely great feeling. However if you want notchy and super short get a Numeric, I had one and got rid of it.
Glad to see you must be driving it again or close to if you're asking shifter questions?
Get something from Porsche you can know properly adjusted with their tool that comes with the shifter and isn't so closely spaced you hit the wrong gear in your new box!

Thanks guys...I'll just bite the bullet and get the 997 SSK. I was hoping to pay less after all the $$ getting the trans done but you get what you pay for...
Yep, back driving and am happy thus far. Few things to finish/sort out but overall good.

and you know that I scored my 996 SSK on Sixspeed for $250...feels great and is significantly shorter throwing than the stocker.

My vote is for the 997GT3 shifter. I own the 997SSK (in my 997TT), the 997GT3 shifter gives more positive placement for the shift. You don't have to think twice about making the gear change. The bolt action "feeling" is smoother vs the notchy 997SSK.
The OP mentioned notchy, so the 997SSK, might be his choice. If you want smooth positive shifts go with the 997GT3 shifter. You will give up some throw, but not much..

I've tried them all, B&M, 997SSK, 997.2GT3, and the 996Cup shifter. The Cup shifter basically takes the 7.2GT3 shifter to another level by adding even more metal to it. It's my favorite especially when combined with the Cup cables and Gearbox mounted Cup lever. For a direct bolt on using the stock cables and stock shift lever, the 7.2GT3 shifter would be my choice and it's slightly cheaper than the Cup shifter. The 997SSK does have the shortest throw, too short for my liking and feels a bit "plasticky". It's still a very good shifter though.
