996TT vs 997.1TT
Total 911 is "out of stock" of issue 49 that made this comparison, does anyone have this issue? Could anyone post a preview of the pages that makes the 996 vs 997 TT comparison from issue 49? Also owners of both vehicles which one is more engaging and fun to drive? Obviously 997.1TT has more power and mod potential but which is the driver's car?

Everything in life is subjective.. Ford vs Chevy, engine oils debates, color of cars, coupe vs Cab...
I have enjoyed having all the turbo 911's.. The 965 turbo is my go to car to drive.. It is raw 2 wheel single turbo power.. The 993TT is more refined, quicker on the street, smoother but not as raw as the 965..
Comparing my 996TT vs my 997.1TT the 996TT gives you back more driver input. It is more "raw" Everything in the 997TT is at your finger tips, it is the perfect touring car. It has the BEST seats ever made by Porsche. The adaptive Sport seats allow you to find the perfect long distance position for your back. My wife will nod off in 5 minutes with the heat on.. That won't happen in the 965..
The 997.1TT is very linear in the power ouput. The 350mm brakes are great. The limited slip is a nice feature. I don't like the dual mass flywheel. The NAV and creature comforts are very good. The exhaust system sucks big time, it is quieter than the 996TT since the tips exit centerline vs towards the ground.
With the 996TT it offers more road feed back.. More road noise, more cabin noise.. Basically more of a driver.. Similar to the 965 vs the 993TT.. The cabin controls still make you feel at home in the earlier cars.. The 997TT on the road is luxury touring.. More BMW and Merc with 2 door Porsche feeling.
Comparing stock for stock. You can hit the Sport Chrono and instantly power slide the rear end with little RPM.. The VNT turbochargers produce alot of torque down low.. I say this for stock to stock cars.. Tuning the 996TT changes things..
If I would take a tuned 996TT to the track vs the stock 997TT... As a driver you would have more fun..
Drive BOTH cars.. Find out what you like.. In the end it's all subjective. I like em both.. If I have to make it to FedEX or on a parts run, I'll grab the 965.. When the weather is crappy, the newer cars will get the duty..

Thanks so much Kevin that was very informative!
I have briefly driven both cars, I have a slight issue with the clutch feel on both cars, engagement is not as crisp as it is on my 951S. Steering felt better on the 996TT. The 997.1 TT just felt too muted altogether. The 996TT shifter felt a bit too light while the 997.1TT had a notchier feel to it which felt better to me. I don't know if you guys have the same feelings about the shifters. Is there a way to have a nothier shifter feel on the 996TT?
The 996TT with a black interior looks terrible on the inside to me but it does not look so bad in savanna beige so I would probably be looking for that (not many used 996TT seem to have that interior color, mainly grey and black).
I am concerned about these type of details as power is trivial since they are both plenty powerful.

You have three options for the 996TT with regards to the shifter. Standard 997, 997GT3 and the notchy 997SSK. Try the 997GT3 shifter, shorter throws vs the 996TT and more precise of a feel.
There are two brown interiors available.

With respect to the clutch feel, the real problem is the helper spring which is anything but helpful. There are two solutions. A GT2 clutch kit which will run about $2k installed, or replace the helper spring with a lighter spring which is a $2 DIY.
There are some other advantages to the GT2 kit, but if feel is the main issue, the spring is the primary culprit.

Thanks so much you guys are awesome!
JG 996T really appreciate the post! Is there one more page of text?
SSST thanks for the info on the helper spring, I have heard about many removing the helper springs.
For those that have taken both cars to a track or winding road, how well does the 996TT handle relative to the 997.1TT? I understand there are many suspension upgrade options but stock for stock which handles better? Is the new electronic AWD system a serious advantage in terms of handling on a dry surface or does it take away the natural feel of the car?

Shifter, did I hear shifter...and brown interior...this is natural brown and once you see a natural brown interior...bam, nothing looks as good. Some are just too dark. Some show wear. This feels like a made to measure suit and just looks amazing. Even today, people love it. It won people's choice for the water cooled cars last summer.....over 997's...and such. Go figure. Hard to find for sure. The two tone interior make the otherwise black hole interior much more interesting. Shear dumb luck finding this one to be honest.
(UMW (Kevin's) lwfw/clutch/code/bov's/......full, custom suspension...a really fun car..race car for the street really - or an outlaw to use the term a certain beadred LA guy is using to promote himself..)
Both are great cars. The irony is to the uninitiated, the 996TT looks like the lights are "newer" and my kids think it looks "faster" (smoother shape, more fluid....not sure how to say that).
