Default Upgraded GIAC flash to UMW today - what an improvement!

With all the posts before I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about the UMW improvements and I have to say the posts about how good the UMW program is for the 996tt are 100% correct!

Idle is smoother, start from stop is smoother I am sure because of the improved low end torque and the turbos (k24) spool up quicker even without the waste gate mod! Drivability is greatly improved and when you push the pedal down hard it let's you enjoy what seems to be endless power!

Not to mention how knowledgeable Kevin is. I am a very happy UMW customer and family member!

Thanks Kevin!!

Good to hear.

Do you have an exhaust? That (with reduced backpressure) and the wastegate mod are the trick for the K24s.

I do -- have techart - I believe the racing style (did a search based on the part number a while ago.) . I was just looking at another recent thread about the springs. I am sure the time will come for them also! Would love to know what installing them entails

not much. someone on another board asked me if i wanted their barely used techart springs, and i declined for a set of new hr's. if you need or want them, he was letting them go cheaply, as i recall.

nice to hear of your results on the umw tune. was your car tuned previously? i often think of a reflash to a fresher tune, and your mention of the more consistent idle is a definite point of contention in my current and old cargraphic tune. esp in this heat, bounces up to 1k then down to 800.. lol. one of these days... just hasn't been a pressing issue. some point, gonna look up old kevin here based upon all the glowing reports.

^^ I think clorigo was saying he has a techart exhaust and was inquiring as to the install of the wastegate springs....

Clorigo- How did the start from stop improve? I have a new GIAC flash and feel as if there is a slight hesitation when I first pull out from a full stop. The throttle seems to have a slight lag in the very low RPM's, but are fine after I'm up and rolling. Good thing I'm not a stop light drag racer.

Thank you guys! Did more driving yesterday and have to say I just love how much smoother it drives. Seem to be getting better mileage also (even from stock, not to mention the GIAc tune)

02996ttx50 - yes the tunes idle is MUCH more consistent. I would get some fluctuation also 800-900 and back and forth but that is gone now. And I was talking about the wastegate springs - but thank you for trying to help me out! I appreciate it. Also thanks Adam for posting the DIY. Looks easy but didn't look through the entire thread to see how hard it is to remove the actuator. I can see it of course on the car but getting it so I can work on it I wonder about .

Uschoice- I also had a GIAC tune before UMW. I had the exact same hesitation in 1st and 2nd when "driving normally". I can happily say it is completely gone in 1st and mostly in second. I have to drive it more to understand what is going on in second and to be sure it isn't me. Again this is low rpm parking lot or neighborhood driving. Not normal street (lol or track) driving. Also I saw 1.0 bar boost when pushing it (from k24 turbos) / you can tell it has a tube. So really it just is a nicer driving car that goes quicker than stock (arguably faster too with the increase in HP although GIAC also had increase boost but it is smoother boost with UMW. It isn't like a switch at 4600 rpm. Easier to drive and handle. )

I really can't say enough nice things about the product or Kevin.

Side-bar: what happened to turboflatsix.com? looks like it used to be a pretty active forum - but no posts in 2 years?

Stock K16s? Or a hybrid turbo? I'm assuming the latter...
