Dear Dave,
Please keep us posted as to the determined cause and the response from your insurance co.
Best regards,

Dave : Glad nobody got hurt....i'm sure it is heart breaking, but hopefully you will at least have an opportunity to get another.

I'm assuming we are talking about the power steering oil reservoir tank...right. Symptom is a high piching whining noise eminating from the engine compartment. Had mine replaced a couple of weeks ago.

ins co said they are having an expert pin down the cause. They are being pretty nice about it so far.

Im pretty bummed. Ive lost alot this week, more than the car, she called our wedding off , and a few other things as well this week (business related)

I think Im going to stay off here for a while. Its a bit much to handle all at once.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Ill be back when I know the cause.

Dave

Dave - real sorry to hear about all the troubles. Sometimes in life when it rains, it really pours. But hang in there...you'll come out stronger and better. Cheers!

My car had a real strong smell of VP109 today. I was driving aroung with my 3 year old buckeled into the child seat in the back and started thinking about how long it would take me to get him unbuckled and out before we both burned!

Would be very helpful to hear the cause of the fire. Good Luck.

Just an update.

They are having a some sort of special engineer look at the car to be sure where it originated. Should know something this week they said.

Thank you! I can hear mine in the morning when starting from cold... I have the 60K service coming up but I don't think I will wait until then... I will make an appointment to get this checked out.

Default Car burned today

Dave buy plenty of LUBE as I feel you are about to get screwed. I had a friend that was hit and their car was a total loss and Nationwide was not on their side. JMO

Why should ther be anything but a normal "buy retail-sell wholsale" hit? Property loss thru fire involves no reassignment of fault. Seems that the policy will dictate terms, which typically would be replacement cost minus deductible. Won't the only question will be determination of replacement cost? AS

best of luck to you in all your dealings of the week!

although i confess that i don't understand why some are coming to the conclusion that insurance is trying to screw you. Sure we've all had our run-ins with insurance companies, but in this case i can't see a problem. You were driving a car and it caught on fire, burned and you have a loss. You may have some valuation debate wih the insurance co. but we are talking about perhaps a 4-5k spread (worst case).

in any case - hang in there!

cheers,
boris
