well appreciate all the above info that I of course never knew.
But.......since my new engine is going in today what can I get out of all the above high tech info that may prevent me from "blowing" another motor at the track?
Jean, Geoffrey???? Please some helpful suggestions that pertain to my new engine on the track??

Jean, the internal oiling circuits are different between the GT3 crank and 993/996TT crank. The GT3 oils at every 180 degrees vs once every 360 with the 993 or 996TT crankshaft. Porsche Motorsports has released new bearings for the Gt3 crankshaft. It is very critical to select the correct bearings. One has different sizing spec to chose the correct "group" of bearings to use.

As far as the 997GT3 is concerned, until I actually see the new crankshaft I can't make a decision as to what was/is better.

Tom, Goodluck with the new engine.

Kevin, motor going in as we speak! Should be running today.
Again, I cant thank you enough for pulling off a deal no one else could do, by getting me a new motor and taking care of the core.
Also thank you for all your invaluable time and information you have provided, I cant say enough about how great your service is!!
thanks again
tom

I always wondered... How do you keep the old debris from ruining the new motor?? All that metal debri from the broken engine goes into the oil lines, oil coolers, etc… Do you replace all that?? Flush it somehow??

Jaime, the 996TT, GT2 and GT3 engine platform have a contained engine oil/water heat exchanger that is mounted on top of the engine. It is a sealed unit. One can purchase a new exchanger.

Thank you Kevin - seems that for a minute there my mind drifted to the 964/993 cars... So not such a big issue in the water cooled cars then. Cool!

What's the main difference btwn the late('04) gt2 and the x50 engine vs the current 997TT other than the turbos?

According to Kevin the 04 GT2 got a new reinforced engine case and some other up-grades. I also believe the gt2 is not all wheel drive.

All GT series cars AND turbo's received the updated reinforced engine case.. The engine case used in prior years was based off the 964 castiing. This casting had provisions for the oil drain tubes that ran from the cam housings to the engine case. With the addition to the water cooled liners and heads these drain tubes were omitted. BTW, Porsche had to install two large oil sump pumps on each side of the engine.

With the tubes removed, the engineers were able to provide a corrigated reinforced casting in the engine casting..
