Post Dealer warning - Boston

Chambers Motors of Boston took my $1000 deposit on a 2003 996 turbo. It's on the ground and it is mis-ordered and they refuse to refund my deposit.

Greater Boston people stay clear of this dealer. They are the dealer that refused to replace a clock on my 993 turbo because it was aluminum trimmed and MUST be aftermarket...X71 option.

That really stinks...why did you order a car from them if they screwed you in the past? Hope you get this resolved, my Hint is to first threaten and then actually call 1-800-PORSCHE, Dealers care deeply about how they are seen by PCNA. Good luck,

Jason

I have had very good experience with Clair in Boston. It is a relatively small volume Porsche dealer, but has been quite productive for me. I have also bought several MB's from the dealership in the past few years. Email me for more perspective on Boston area dealers, as there are a couple of others that I have recently spoken with. All deposits should be refundable, especially if a dealer erred in the order. There are a lot of 996 TT's out there now, so you should be able to get what you want or order it without much problem. BTW, I am not a dealer, just a customer.

I've heard good things too, about Clair. The MB service manager Bob Joyce is the best I've encountered.

I went back Chambers because I thought I'd not abandon them for just one act of stupidity on the X71 option, but not refunding a deposit and being unwilling to negotiate any resolve has me running.

Here's the worst part...I'm two miles from Clair

Hmm,

That's too bad about Herb Chambers. Seems they have 2 new GT2's for sale.

Another viewpoint:

I have dealt with Herb Chambers Porsche for several years and have never had any problems with sales or service. In fact, on one occasion they pointed out a warranty issue that I didn't even know existed and then asked if I would like them to take care of it! I have found their Porsche service to be expensive, but very thorough and top notch. This is one place where I always felt that I got what I paid for. Whenever any of my cars have been in for service, they have been repaired perfectly, with factory parts and delivered clean as a whistle (not my experience at most other Porsche dealers/independants over 20 years).

I view Chambers differently than jesse. IMHO, don't let the remarks of one individual keep you away from Herb Chambers, find out for yourself - maybe you will end up liking them.

John-

I bought 4 Turbos there with great satisfaction. There has been a recent change of management. Email me if you want more detail.

James.
I am less than shocked to see you trying to badmouth herb chambers with your non-truths. You were informed that navigation was not going to be available when the car was ordered, yet you say this is a new revelation. Other than that option, the car was exact to your specs. This happened with not only time to cancel, but you could have had your trade back as well. You didn't seem to have a problem with anything until the car you agreed to pay list less your trade allowance came in and you wanted to renegotiate the terms which no dealer would find reasonable. Herb Chambers has offered another car for January delivery built with the now available PCM option and also lets "Jesse James" out of the luxury tax which was also expected to be absorbed by the dealer.
What decade did you buy the other 3 Turbos in, because you bought one trading in a Corvette which I don't think you would care to get into the honest details of that transaction.
Bob Fitzgerald is the "head Tech" which you care to joust with on Porsche knowledge. A 20 year master tech with one of the best reputations in the country for repair of the Porsche product....Good Luck!
Just for the record Herb Chambers has one GT-2 remaining in stock which can be purchased at list price as well as a black '03 Turbo.

That is absolutely not true. I have the order form showing the PCM. Email me anyone and I'll send a jpg of it.

Other than that option, the car was exact to your specs.

Agreed.

This happened with not only time to cancel, but you could have had your trade back as well. You didn't seem to have a problem with anything until the car you agreed to pay list less your trade allowance came in and you wanted to renegotiate the terms

No one told me I had time to cancel and I do agree that I wanted to re-negotiate...the car came in NOT as ordered.
All bets are off in this situation.

Herb Chambers has offered another car for January delivery built with the now available PCM option ...

When did this happen? I was never informed of any other car available.

What decade did you buy the other 3 Turbos in, because you bought one trading in a Corvette which I don't think you would care to get into the honest details of that transaction.

I bought an 89,91 and 92. Better check your records.

What about the Corvette other than my taking a bath? You're the dealer and are you saying you put too much money on it? For shame. I guess we both lost on that one.

Bob Fitzgerald is the "head Tech" which you care to joust with on Porsche knowledge. A 20 year master tech with one of the best reputations in the country for repair of the Porsche product....

Bob is great for sure. He's not the person who told me I had aftermarket non-warranty (X71) gauges.

First post. No email. Intimate knowledge of Herb Chambers business...Folks it's George Chambers!

Wouldn't it have been easier to admit your mistake and refund my deposit or at the very least negotiate to a conclusion?

Instead you hung me out to dry. You just stopped talking. What a way to negotiate.. leave the customer hanging and take his money.

Please, let's be real. I understand that you wanted the PCM with the original agreement. When it could not be ordered you were notified as stated. You can still order the January delivery, as if that wasn't made clear.
As for the Vette, you refused to relinquish the title until I was forced to threaten legal action after two months. I'm sure that you will have your own twist to put on this as well, but if anyone new what type of person we were dealing with, they would pay you no mind.
If you would like to discuss your options please feel free to contact us, it's not that difficult.
This will be my final posting in reguards to this topic. Your agenda is not that important to me.

'Bout time you admitted that.

Aaaaah, No Thank you.

As for the Vette, you refused to relinquish the title until I was forced to threaten legal action after two months.

I was told by Michael to keep the title until I got the owners manual for the aftermarket audio and window sticker for the 97...as leverage. You put so much heat on Michael Fernandes I gave it up without ever getting those items. You threatened me..Wow ! Guess I missed that.

My deposit back will end this...

Your agenda is not that important to me.

It shows...what a way to run a business. Customer Commitment be damned.

No returning of a deposit - that is virtually unheard of, and at a minimum a bad business practice for someone who has purchased a lot of hardware from you guys.

Shame, shame on you Chambers Motors...

BTW, PCM on a GT2 - isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?

Three words come to mind: small claims court. If they did not perform to their side of the contract I can't see why you have to perform to any part of your side.
