I wonder if a tuned Tiptronic might actually be better for this task so you can always stay on boost. I drove a 997TT with the Tiptronic and it was FAST.
The TCU in the 997 Turbo has alot more flexibility in regards to tuning for whatever reason.

An upgraded valve body + blue top solenoids and a torque converter could probably make this happen or keep a PDK honest. I plan on doing the blue tops this spring to see how it feels then have IPT do the valve body on my car. There were some guys on 6speed who did it about 10 years ago but there wasnt much feedback from them.

Manual tuned 996 and 997 turbo with the right turbos, intercoolers and exhaust will leave a stock 991.2 turbo s for dust from a dig. Tips even more so.

I love the 996 turbo, it's a great car and a lot of fun, but to try to compete with a 991.2 turbo S in speed contests, whether straight line or road course is an exercise in futility. Sure, a highly modified 996 turbo will be close, but a 991.2 turbo S with just a tune and exhaust is already a 9 second car in the quarter mile trapping about 140mph! And all you have to do to get more is add a few simple bolt-on parts like stickier tires, turbo intake tubes, Y-Pipe, etc. and it does even better...Where the 996 turbo really shines is the driving experience, it's a great driving car. I know that I had a blast putting 158,000 memorable miles on mine.

PDK is just always going to be a good bit faster for the same power level.

I have both, and, can assure you, off the line, the 991 has the advantage stock against my very modded 996 manual.

On a road course, the moment the 991 was ahead, I do not think 996 could do nothing more than keep up.

In a head to head third gear pull, my 996 will slightly edge out the TTS, but the moment I shift, in the 996, it's over and the 991 will pull ahead.

Here is a short video that shows how easily and inexpensively a .2 Turbo S is made into a 9 sec. car.

I haven't driven a PDK but I drove the latest BMW M6 that has a double clutch transmission. It's nuts how fast everything happens.

The DCT in the BMW is like breaking nuts open with rocks compared to the PDK - my biggest automotive regret ever was getting the M5 with the DCT and not the manual. Auto mode in the BMW is chunky and not smooth; I can drive it smoother by shifting manually.

What's really crazy is running high 9's on stock tires. That 60' time is amazing.

Also, that is one fast Durango! My friend installs and tunes twin turbo kits for Hellcat Durangos and TRX's in Jersey. 1000 horse.

From what I've seen from 60-130 data on markski cars, you're not coming close to a 991TT from a rolling start without upgrading the turbos. Zero chance from a stop. You'll break your car trying to out launch the PDK.

Exactly.

My 991 Turbo (lightly modded) will absolutely turn faster lap times than my 996 Turbo (moderately modified), but I still prefer taking the 996 out for most track days and the 996 will easily put as big of a smile on my face as the 991 ripping in the canyons.

But where the 991 Turbo really shines as an absoutel do-it-all weapon. Costco runs to car shows, canyon carving to cross country, circuit tracks to commuting. It is the most flexible/capable car I have ever owned. Reliable as well, mine currently is approaching 71K miles.

I've heard people say its basically a Panamera with 2 doors.

I don't think I'd go that far, but it is a refined car.

Modern 911 Turbos also come from the factory fairly muted, very quiet exhaust, tires that are a definite notch below what they put on GT cars, suspension that definitely feels comfortable. But put on an exhaust so you can actually hear what the engine is doing, a DSC Sport suspension controller to wake up the active shocks, and perhaps Cup 2 tires if you want to track it, and it's a whole different animal. Still not as visceral as a nicely modified 996 Turbo, but sure as hell no Panamera...

My answer for a modern, reliable, ultra performance car that provides exceptional involvement was the 991.2 GT3 RS. The car is an involving beast with full warranty, 3100 lbs. and a 9,000 RPM / 520HP race motor with a factory tweaked PDK-S transmission, which is stunning. It makes absolutely incredible sounds and is the most enjoyable and entertaining Porsche that I have ever owned - and it's very modern with a full warranty! I think it's sort of the holy grail of Porsche right now and is a great upgrade for anyone looking for newer while avoiding the excessive refinement of the new turbo models. IMO, any newer GT3 will do the trick, it doesn't have to be an RS.
