that's what I love about the 996. Can it be beat? Absolutely, especially with a talented driver of a newer car. But, damn, it just drives *SOOO* well. A few weeks ago buddies were out for a drive and there was some serious hardware. 2018 GT3, 2023 Cayman GTS 4.0. M2 RS competition sport (butchered that I'm sure), 9964S and my 996TT. We all swapped cars. My second favorite was the Cayman GTS, but I hated the lack of mid-range torque. And everyone who got out of mine was just laughing like a kid on a sugar rush. There are better/faster pieces out there, but in the smiles per mile, I'll take my old 996TT *EVERY* time. They're just so much fun.

I have not driven one of the 4.0l Cayman's, but I'd really like to. Problem with the gearing detracts from mid range feel - way to long.
But alas, there is a solution for that exact problem....

I watched a video where Ben Collins (aka The Stig) drives his 997 turbo on the race track and then drives a 992 Turbo S. The difference in lap times between the two was staggering, something like 12 seconds! That's just an eternity, there really isn't a replacement for technology. Our cars are very fun, but don't hold a candle to the newer generation 911 turbos performance wise.

to be fair it does have 160hp more and more modern tires lol
TBH I didn't find the 991Turbo to be quick as expected stock and didn't find traction all that great, maybe I need to revisit one but was surprised- nice daily toy though, was looking at buying one a handful of years back...the 992Turbo is another level of beast and more focused

Our 996s are, IMO the perfect bridge between the old analog cars and the newer electronic ones with the 997 being a segway into the new world with its electronic suspension, motor mounts and VGT turbos.
OP could install a standalone with launch/boost control features to make it faster!

I was totally happy with my stock 02 996 TT MT car.... until my wife picked up here 15 991.1 TT PDK. Holy cow is that car fast.
I'm planning the following mods.... will this get me close to 991.1 tt 0-60 and quarter mile?
IC's (ECS Brand)
MarkSki tune
Europipe St2/100 cell cats

PDK Vs 6speed from a dig, no
From a roll, yes.
My modded, but still stock K16/fuel system, manual Vs 991.1 with tune and exhaust

That's a neat perspective.
