The 7.3 is regarded by many to be one of the best consumer-grade diesel engines ever produced. They have a few weak points (lift pumps come to mind), but those are easily addressed to make them a very powerful and reliable engine.

And...

Crud in the oil buggers the injectors, crud in the fuel buggers the fuel pump (and lift pump), access on E series, turbos fail due to oiling issues - they need to be maintained properly, and the are good.

Everyone whined about the 6.0l too, but if you set it up correctly, add additional filtration for fuel, oil and coolant, thing works like a charm.

It's the bloody transmissions that sucked even worse.

6.0 and 6.4 are def cool but need lots of work to be reliable. The 7.3 is cool, but it's 2020. The new 6.7 has been proven to be a stout engine and makes tons of power.

Agreed - my Ford guys keep complaining about the newer motors and how complicated they are getting - I really do like the 6.7, just a tune and I have 530hp and 1100+lb/ft, emissions friendly and bloody fast.

I spent a lot of coin to get those numbers 'reliably' on the 6/6.4

I thought it was you. I was just too lazy to look back at the threads.

I must say, I do love my sofa!

Maybe I'll set my sights on the 6.7 then, unless I come across a very nice and well maintained. The 1990's era trucks are very nostalgic to me, though...

Thanks for the advice!

As for the Excursion - not sure I have the parking for it just yet...we'll chat though.

90s trucks are cool, but they're 30 years old. The 6.7 is an amazing engine. My truck with just a tune makes over 1200 lb ft on the lower settings.

As far as trucks go, this one is pretty good looking, and as SE mentioned above, huge torque with the twin scroll turbo at very low settings.

I have always loved the the 7.3 PS. I owned a 7.3 IDI manual for years. It's crazy that the 3.5 Ecoboost puts down better numbers than a mild tune on those early powerstrokes. I thought they were amazing when we would pull 30 ft trailers with them in the 90's.

And... San Rafael Swell with clouds above
