LOL, I know that is a somewhat common perspective, but no different than what Camaro ZL1 1LE owners must say about our Turbos? 'Can't see a 6 cyl sports car...."

Personally, I love turbocharged engines. Every vehicle (four wheeled at least) I own is turocharged... Audi 2.0L Turbo, Ford 3.5L Turbo, Porsche 3.6L Turbo, Porsche 3.8L Turbo.

My old 'extended utility bed' version Excursion V10 in Moab, aka F350!
Had over a quarter million miles on that V10 and when I sold it and it was still going strong...

It does kind of baffle me why Ford doesn't re-introduce a Super-duty based SUV with a GTDI engine. They would sell the crap out of them and could be priced to have an absolutely HUGE profit margin. Apart from the SVT group, Ford seems to have the most risk-adverse, least creative product planning group in the industry.

I'm surprised your mileage isn't better; mine fell off my 450 and went from 11mpg to 23...

Mind you a few things fell off, and it got a fully built motor with headwork and a Suncoast tranny plus 37" commercial tyres... All this with 430s in it....

Did the horse pee injection system fall off with the EGR too?

hard to believe it's getting 23 mpg. I'm at best maybe 17ish, driving reasonable. Truck has just full 5" exhaust and AFE intake. EGR just shut off via tune. 6" lift on 22x12 and 37x13.5x22. The wheels, tires def don't help.

The 'motor' is very heavily worked, ported, ceramic on everything, knife edged and balanced crank, cam, fuel, filtration, etc. Etc. Etc.

Then there's the tuning - at partial load, 25 percent or so @ 60mph, it turns 2100rpm and produces about 1100lb/ft with egts below 600f...

It just sips fuel with that program.

Then I can turn it up - I have enough air and fuel to support 750/800 HP, and over 1600ft/lbs... The Suncoast TC allows me to load it to about 30psi and then I let off the brakes... It'll embarass just about anything to 80mph then it gets a bit sketchy as the tyres get greasy...

The engine is rated up to 900hp, 19/2000ft/lbs, but I'll need bigger turbos to get there.

It'll tow 30,000lbs all day long at 550hp, 1100f egt, tranny in the 150 to 165f range, creeping up to 180ish on grades longer than a couple of miles.

I can pull up the coke (our big pass in BC) pulling 15000lbs at 50mph and just be touching 1300f egts...

It is, for lack of a better description, a monster.

Sounds like a monster. This is a new 6.7? Either way, cruising we should be getting around the same MPG

No this one is a 6.4, my 6.0 is even better at around 26mpg...

As I said, a lot went into the tuning of it - the horse pee thing is no good as is the EGR.

When those restrictions are removed, and you can trim the thing way down on fuel, you can use the airflow to bump up the torque substantially.

Now, if I out my foot into it and don't let the computer sort it out, I'm down around 12/13mog for all of them, under ten in the city.

This was a year before I put the big motor in, but had the 37s on 22.5s, I was more interested in the Odo reading, but you get the idea... tuning had begun at this point.

Running about 70mph 10 pounds of boost - a very cool toy.

A base Boxster. And yes, it is fun to drive a slow car fast.

Is it worth getting into the ol' 7.3 Powerstroke as a tow vehicle? I'm wanting to tow a nice covered trailer in the future with 2 cars in it. However, I don't like the looks of the new trucks. I'm interested in the 1995-esque generation of Ford trucks, as well as the one right after (but not the bubbly F150, the squared off 250 and 350's of the early 2000's).

Is that just too old of tech to be reasonable anymore? I've just heard many good things about the reliability long term, so I'd be interested to pick your collective diesel brains.

Don't like the look of the new trucks...???!!!

7.3 is the way to go as long as it was taken care of; if it was not maintained properly, it will be a whole new world of pain and suffering...
