Default Pinning the lines

I have a 2004 996Turbo with 19k miles on it. The lines have not been pinned and I was wondering whether or not I should do it. The cars shows no signs of any leaks. What is the ballpark figure on the cost of an Indy doing it?

$3k. Could be $500 less, could be $500 more. It's not just the cost of pinning it is all of the other stuff you should do while you are in there that adds up. Expect to spend another $2-3k on top of that to handle the things you should do like plugs, coils, belt, fuel filter, etc.

With those miles and If you're not going to track your car there is a low risk of a pipe blowing out anytime soon.

If pinning/welding makes you feel better though then do it.

The fittings can be pinned without removing the engine.

Imo just leave it, shove a couple hundred a month somewhere and when your clutch goes out or somethinf happens when you have to drop engine you got that cash saved up.

But yeah 3 to 4k for pinning. Theres tons of things you should also replace while engine is out.

I thought only some were able to be pinned?

Or are you talking about just dropping the trans?

No, all of the fittings; engine in, and I believe transmission in (but I'd have to check to make sure.)

I spent $3,900 on welding (normal price is $4,900 from my indy). My engine came out for the job. I believe that there is one joint that cannot be reached without an engine out job.

It is a 04' with 79K miles.

Spent another 7K on other 'while you are there' things.

Too messy to leave the engine in. I don’t like the idea of metal filings moving around in there. The quote everyone is giving you of $3k is including the removal and reinstall. For most guys the actual work is around $1500 for the pinning and $1500 for the re/re.

Can't be reached for pinning or welding?

They can all be pinned in the car. 6 of 8 are relatively east to get to. There are 2 under/around the oil cooler that require removal of the PS and AC pumps and possibly a piece of the intake plenum (extra 2-3 hours). Some one that was good at this type of stuff could probably do it in 5 hours and <$100 in parts

There is an Indy shop here in the Atlanta area that has great mechanics, and they pin all the fittings with the engine in the car for around $2,300. They remove the parts you mentioned to do it.

That's a good price.
