I pinned the coolant lines a few years ago. The estimate was inline with everything here. The total bill was $9-10k. There’s a lot of “while you’re in there” stuff that adds up quickly. Just be aware before you dive into engine out work.

Why did I pin the lines? Because my favorite road has zero cell service for 20 miles and no houses. I probably wouldn’t have done it if I could just call for a tow.

 

said it before i'll say it again. my cars coolant lines are as fossilized as a bug encased in mesozoic tree sap.

at 169k miles with no issues. i ain't pinning sh*t. but i do keep a couple packages of jb weld around. for luck.

8 grand plus, as a preventative?! and not full time tracking. i'll pass.

 

I now know I don't have to be in a hurry to do this. Thanks guys for your insights. And I passed on a 308GT4 because of the upkeep......

 

I have 33k miles on my car. I'm not going to do this job unless one of the lines starts to leak or my clutch starts slipping. Then it'll be engine out and do all the "while you're in there" jobs too. I have a local friend with over 120k miles on his turbo and his lines are fine, so I don't really feel like this is something I need to do proactively.

 

Dock, which shop in ATL would that be? I moved from Arizona and am looking for a new mechanic.

 

I spent $14k getting mine welded along with the GT2 slave swap....and all the "while your in there" items...

Thanks Dock! I'm not in Atlanta proper. I live in LaGrange, so I'm 1.5 - 2 hours from everything. There are no mechanics out here who can work on the car. I am resigned to driving for service. We make ATL runs fairly frequently -- no Trader Joe's/Whole Foods/Costco near me.

 

Freed Performance will be a drive for you as they are in Cumming, Georgia.

If you don't want to drive quite as far you might want to take your car to Goldcrest Motorsports in Kennesaw. They are also very good.

 

I just checked and it looks like the drive from LaGrange to Goldcrest is only ~7 minutes shorter than the drive to Freed Performance. I thought Goldcrest would be a longer drive for you. It's almost all Interstate from LaGrange to Freed Performance so that makes a difference.

It did not. However it did include all new coolant pipes, installing hybrid turbos (replacing ceased oil lines and oil res), installing intake pipes, injectors, new alternator wiring, and many other things that were seen when motor was out.... I am aware it is on the high end, but I had recently purchased it and wanted to ensure this work was completed by a competent and reputable shop and was moving shortly after purchase. All the work was completed flawlessly and gave me a worry free transaction.

 

For the guys that have had failures was it a slow trickle or a full blown leak? I have 148,000 and I don't think they were pinned from the previous owner

 

I would weld before pin.
