Learn from my experience...

You have to make sure that the cylinder 6 intake coupler hose clamp screws face towards cylinder 5. Otherwise, the hose clamp will interfere with the oil container and not allow you to mount it.

Ordered the LWFW and clutch components. All the same parts Porsche puts into the 4.0 RS.

Over $2800...hurt my feelings. The clutch kit for my subaru 2.2L was $200 and even included a free alignment tool and grease! :P

In the meantime, lightweight pulley is on.

Oil container nice and clean.

Yikes that hurts more than feelings. How much does the flywheel weigh?

Incredible project, thanks for documenting and sharing in such detail! Once built, this could be the world's baddest 996 GT3, 911SLOW's included.

Here's the status as of tonight. The 997 GT3 Cup exhaust is on. Well the exhaust manifolds are actually off a 997 GT3 street car - Rennlister "On Pole's" to be exact. This was done to comply with the ***** of California ARB. Otherwise, I would have gotten this - fabricated by Hergesheimer Motorsports in SoCal:

We will fabricate custom support brackets for the heavy header/cats... The ones from PMNA are $850 each!!! Not that anything else from them is cheap, but still.

First manifold is in and fit up with the muffler center section.

Muffler itself is a nice piece. The internal inlets and outlets are actually designed with a venturi effect...I should have snapped a few pics. I really don't understand why more 997 guys don't go with this setup...

All together.

Now I gotta wait for the body shop to finish buffing the cup bumper and lid. They sure like to take their sweet time...

Here you go. The "covering" is the rear bumper. Keep in mind that I did not use the Porsche Motorsport decklid because it doesn't seal with the street car airbox. My lid is a replica from Cargraphic. Getty also makes a similar product.

Can you clarify how the Venturi effect is achieved + the possible advantages of this setup? I am simply curious given the popularity of bypass systems from Sharkwerks and GMG on 997s.

As the exhaust gas enters the muffler through the elbows, it's just an open space with baffles at the top of the muffler, and an inlet pipe below that goes straight-through to the exhaust tips. That internal inlet pipe (the one that goes to exhaust exit) has radiused flanges both at the inlet and outlet (just before the tips). I'm not Bernoulli, but I speculate that this is to improve flow. Again, I wish I took more pictures, but I was anxious to mount it.

I think that the popularity of the center exhaust bypass comes from the vendors themselves. Those parts are easy to manufacture with a good profit margin. To fabricate a muffler like the GT3 cup from scratch is labor intensive, and therefore not cost effective. For the $1500 that the muffler costs, there is some serious value there. (Unfortunately, the two elbow pipes cost an additional $800).

To each their own...I could have put any exhaust on from the 996/997 GT3 family and I chose to go this route. I'm not saying this is the only way to do it, but I think it will provide a nice blend of sound, weight savings, and performance.

Up on the rack in preparation for tomorrow's surgery. The bodyshop gave me some tire shine free of charge. So kind.

New fuel filter and expansion tank go on.

The cup bumper is SUCH a nice piece.

Bumper comes off along with the tail lights.

It's going to be a shame to chop off the 997 cup muffler's tips... There is no way they will fit the 996 cup bumper cover. This will allow us to go with something custom. I'm thinking RSR style.
