Tire choices.. PS-2 vs. NT-01 (or any other R-compound)

Looks like I am in need of some new tires.. I drive to the track, so no slicks and such for me. I do find myself not using the GT3 too much for day to day driving. So it is used mostly just to go back and forth between home and the shop, autoX, and DE.
Currently I have the PS-2 on the car..
Obviously, any of the R-compound tires will be "faster", but the reason why I'm asking is because someone has said that a beginner should learn on the street tires, lower limit, etc, etc.
While I don't disagree, I find the PS-2 to be wearing quite a bit on outside (maybe because of the construction of the tires?) and from what I read, that's just what a street tire would do. So as the speed increases, does that mean PS-2 will be no longer up to the task? (in terms of lasting..)
I guess I want to continue on the path of learning, and am wondering if tires such as NT-01, MPSC, etc. would hinder the learning. (Otherwise, I'm sure most would agree to be more appropriate for track use)

Heck I dove for quite awhile on MPSC, and then did the same on Toyo 888. If you want a street tire though then get the Yoko Neova AD08 and be set.

true you learn on street tyres better because when they go they warn you so that have time to learn to try and save it. Dot tyres and slicks even more are on-off like grip grip and then spin
if you drive in the track you need an R that wont kill on the way if it rains michelin cups nonN are plotting to kill you everytme it rains.
Toyos 888 are not so viscious. and are what i use for mixed driving.

Yes, I'm adding more camber up front as we speak.. the car had the conservative setting (-1 to -1.2 up front range) so we are adding some negative camber up front..
The rears are okay at -2 to -2.2 range.

Do a search this subject comes up nearly every other week. I think most bang for your buck is Nitto NT-01.. You'll see alot of people agree.. R888 are not nearly as good as Nitto's IMHO.
Just don't get caught in heavy rain with them...

Yeah, not that I'm being lazy and don't want to search.. I know if I'm going w/ the R-compound, I'd be using the NT-01, but I guess my question is more, would going to NT-01 right now be hurting my progress? (consider I'm probably not doing it right to begin with, i.e., starting out w/ a GT3.. limit is too high, etc, etc.) Would I be better off staying w/ PS-2 (or the AD-08) until I'm better?
Obviously, this has to be balanced w/ the cost as well.. would the street tires withstand the track use as the speed picks up.. etc.

This is where I am at. I’m starting to really wear down my rear Pilot Sports after a few events at the track, and my fronts can’t keep up with my brakes, so I am moving to NT01s and will keep the P/Ss for street driving. I plan to drive to and from the track (~1hr) on the NT01s. Lots of experience here doing this with no drama.

You started all of your track experience this past April? I would say stay on street tires unless you have received specific advice to do otherwise, or you feel that you are exceeding the capabilities of your street tires. This might be a good conversation to have with a driving coach or your CDI.
I've been in the GT3 and my P/Ss for 3 events and the rears are wearing down....but they were not new when I bought the car in Feb of this year.

I'm not looking for the best lap time. But looking for something that is "appropriate" for me. Definitely still learning but want to know that if one should stay w/ PS-2 (or street tire such as AD-08 as mentioned) as the appropriate way to learn. Or people don't feel it that way.

-2 to 2.2 rear camber is fine for street and NT01's. I would also go with the AD08 as a good dual purpose street track tire. The AD08 will be a faster street tire than the PS2 and are still good in the wet.
-2.6 to 2.8 is a good starting place for front camber.

At your experience level I'd say stay on street tires. Save up and get another set of wheels (CCW's) with Nitto's on those. It's nice having safe street tires for everyday use, even if it is infrequent. Although Nittos (or any other R-Comp tire) can be driven on street, you really don't want to have to deal with them in the rain..
