Never run the AD08 (doesn't come in big enough rears for the GT2) but loved the AD07. The AD07 was over 2 secs a lap faster @ Sebring than the PS2 in back to back testing 996GT3. ( the drawback to the AD07 was it was horrible in the wet ) The AD08 is marginally faster in the dry than the AD07 but much better in the wet. Michelin PS2 is still probably the best wet tire that comes in Porsche sizes.
I test a lot of street tires for the One Lap of America.

Are you guys running standard sizes on the GT3 or larger? 235/40-18 front and 295/30-18 rears?

Thanks to 85Gold (Peter) who pointed out to me that due to the 295/35/18 (instead of 295/30/18) size of NT-05, the difference between the front and rear might be too great to have ABS issues. So NT-05 is probably out.

AD-08 is available in the stock size, however. It is probably the way to go at the moment.

general note: you can't compare treadwear ratings directly from one manufacturer to another, meaning a Yoko 150 treadwear rating may not be the same as a Pirelli 150, etc. Use them as a general guideline.

Forget PS2. Lame shoulder cap tread design that wears out fast, even with plenty of camber.

AD08 for street/wet track. Wet track demands your full attention. Focus on being smooth.

Nitto NT-01 for dry track (when you're ready for an R-comp). These tires will make some noise when they are about to let go. I got them squealing yesterday under hard braking as well (a little chirp here and there). Very communicative tire, very progressive release when they let go. This is the only tire I'd recommend to someone for their first taste in R-comps. Great $$$ value too! Nice shoulder cap design so they stand up to much abuse. I really like these tires. Only thing lacking is the mighty grip of Hoosier R6.

Cheers,

And you are lower than stock IIRC. Can you turn the wheel at all without rubbing or did you remove the wheel well liner?

I run standard sizing (235/295) for AD08 because a wider tire in the rain isn't normally what you want.

Nitto and Hoosier are 245/315 for me.

Scott yes way lower and no rubbing (you can easily pass a paper through) and I didn't remove the liners.
255/35/18 & 315/30/18
e88 wheels oem offsets
5mm spacers front
3mm spacers rear.

F:
102mm height
3 camber (rotated struts and 3mm shims)

R:
117mm height
2 camber

Good Luck.
Well... I got caught in heavy thunderstorms/rain going to and leaving Monticello track, suffice to say, it was a bit twitchy but not too nerve racking by any means.

The Nittos have been pretty fast , and were nice and sticky/fast NEW, the R888's exact opposite!

I like the NT01's the best out of both, still have a few sets of R888's and prefer the Nitto's for my street driving and closer track events where I can drive too.. For the big boy tracks though? Hoosiers or Dunlop slicks, really is just no comparison and sometimes has me so underwhelmed coming from an even I did with r6's to then running anything else lol

I really like the 888's and never driven the nittos but its surprizing that nitto would outperform a tyre of the company that owns them and is placed below in marketing.

A comment from Andrie Hartanto of prima racing who raced both.
"The difference in the R888 and NT01 is sidewall construction. R888 is much stiffer while NT01 is more like RA1.
I tested both tires back to back. Me personally like the feel of R888 better. But lap times and setup is nearly identical. I can tell you just that the R888 outperform the nittos in the rain.

I Wish i could try the nittos myself.

Are you finding that the R888's heat cycle out though? I found it really hard to believe that R888's would heat cycle out but sure enough they did for me on my 996. I read several reports of this happening from individuals that had been through many many sets of them but since I loved RA-1's as a DE tire I figured I'd like R888's as much or better. However, I have first hand experince with the R888's heat cycling out just as it was reported. They were outstanding for the first 20 HC's, good from 20-30 HC's and pretty sloppy after that.

Nobody seems to have that issue with the NT-01's. They're just like RA-1's in that they're faster and faster and are ultimately the fastest just before they cord.

After I sold my Porsche last year I started tracking the M3 again, pulled a 3yr old set of RA-1's out of the basement and went as quick as I've ever gone in that car on those old tires.
