I'm taking my "new to me" 2004 996 GT3 to Lime Rock next week, and will run the first day with Michelin PS2's. What tire pressure do you guys recommend?

I normally start around 26-28 cold and see where that puts me at the end of the session.

These are Pilot Sport PS2 not cup tires. With Cups, I had been starting at 26/28 on my 993 and ending up at 34/35.

I shoot for 36F/38R on PS2's. Same on my Nitto's. But the MPSC is a much lower PSI.

The PS2s will get greasy feeling once they get hot after a few hard laps.

Huh? I think you are confusing heat with over-inflated tires generating temps above the threshold.

I have run countless laps on PS2's running VERY hard in my 3 and the only time it ever feels greasy (which was extremely rare) was when I missed the target hot by a couple PSI (on the high side) which creates the greasy situation. The PS2's are a fantastic tire on the track and if run at the proper temps and psi you will be rewarded full session after full session all weekend.

Because you end up with too high of a reading once they get hot. As a rule of thumb you do not want street tires to be over 40psi when hot. Over that and you are going to compromise grip severely. 993's had a suggested cold pressure of 44 in the rear tires which is stupid.

Quickrick, I am also taking my "new" '04 GT3 to LRP the 26th. Same day as you??? You said next week. I know there is also a PCA event there this weekend. I also was interested tire presures too, glad you posted.
We should compare notes up there on what we started with and the results so we don't spend all day tweaking tire pressures.
I will be in the silver GT3, white group, CT plates, or actually, probably a temp plate in the window.

When the street tires are hot they should be around 40 psi all around. You should start around 34 psi cold all around or 1-2 more lbs for the rear tires. P.S. I will be at lime rock the next the two weekends (pca nnjr & pca hcr) in the black group.

Canyon is right, PS2's get greasy after a few laps (like all street tires). I used to run them in the low 30's hot, but even that didn't help much.

Maybe us Left Coast guys just push harder.

if you are at 32/39 cold, you will be at 40/47 or so hot, it will be like driving on ice
