Default Have you been at the track with a well driven C6 Z06?

I'm just curious. It seems that the new Z06 is not the best handling machine out there, and typically the road courses reward good handling cars.

I've been on the track with plenty of C5 Z06 and they're no contest against my car, but no luck yet with the new Z06.

No idea - I have been waiting to see here at Mosport.
What tires are standard on the C6 Z06?

I would bet that you are going to have your hands full against a well driven C6 Z06. It has similar weight but 125 more hp!! That will make up for a lot of handling woes (if they exist).

Understand this is only my educated guess as I have not driven a 996 GT3 or C6 Z06 on the track.

The come with Runflats. I would assume a track monkey would chuck those quickly. And put coilovers on.

I was at Mid-Ohio with my stock GT3 and running with C6 Z06s. Two were no contest as the owners were driving them well below the car's capability. One did slowly eat it's way toward me as I was lapping on my street tires. It did catch me (not real quick though) and when I went to move over and let it pass it pulled in behind me and fell back. Turns out it lost it's oil pressure right then and had to pull off the track and shut her down. I talked with the drivers afterward and found out the car had a full coil over treatment, different brakes, and Hoosiers. It was definitely quicker BUT they said they had been trying to catch me all weekend so they could have someone to "play with"...so it wasn't like they were lapping everyone in the group at will.

I came away very impressed with my stock GT3. It was my first time at Mid-Ohio in a rear engined porsche and only my 5th track day in the GT3. I was doing 1:44s on a stopwatch and with R compound rubber and RS-19 brakes, I feel I would have been another 2-3 (4?) seconds faster. My goal is to get into the mid-high 1:30s over time and call it mission accomplished. My sense was that with equivalent rubber, and a stock setup on both cars, they would be very equivalent on a track like Mid-Ohio.

Hope that synopsis helped.

Cheers.

so, it seems that stock 8 pots corvette binders aren't good, that replacement is necessary?
if you add cost of jrz/moton, bremo/AP/wilwood and a few more th ings, Z06 will not be much cheaper than GT3!

The cost of aGT3 would cover a Cayman with a big motor in it - which would probably track better then either the Z or GT3

I've not driven against one but I've driven one on the track. I thought the brakes were great and had no signs of fade like the C5 Z06. Tons of torque everywhere which makes it pretty easy to drive. I felt that with a little more time I could have been faster in it than my GT3 stock to stock.

I've heard that you can get another 75HP out of the for about $5K. It's a potent package.

It's still not a car that I can "feel the corners" in like a 911 but that's probably just me. I've spent a lot more time in PCars and that's what I chose to buy.

I have had some lapping time against a new Z06. I was on R compounds and his car was bone stock on streets. I was able to pull away. I am pretty sure than once he gets R compounds and decent brake pads, the Z06 is going to be quicker than the Gt3 given equal drivers. The car is fast! The brake pads are not up to track though. Dealers don't even have spares!

We have two pretty well driven C6 s at the local club . They both run on stock Eagle F1 tires and brakes. From the times the have given, they are a couple of seconds a lap slower than a GT3 with MPSC s, RS 19s and a track alignment. When they will be able to get R compounds and better pads it will be difficult to stay ahead of them. Both seem very happy with the cars and have not had any problems except trying to find pads. Seems they are having a tough time getting them, even from the dealers. Aftermarket is almost none existent. Only option is to change front rotors to avoid the six piece pads.

Stock for stock (and i mean stock) and EQUAL DRIVERS the Z06 will win, even with run flats.
I'm not magazine racing here but in the new Motor Trend issue (June) they said the Z06 stopped from 60 in 104 feet which they said was better than a Ferrari Enzo. Also if you watch the new top gear that airs on Sunday, that the Stig sets a lap time(C6 Z06) at there track 1/10th of a second behind the GT3 RS which was running on R compound tires, and was faster than the Ferrari 430. Got my flame suit on so im ready but please be gentle i bruise easily.

The RS doesn't come on proper R compounds. They are about halfway between road and R compounds.

Problem with the top gear laps is that they can't spend too long setting them and they get different drivers. Some of the Stigs are an awful lot quicker than others. So it makes their maths pretty meaningless.

What surprised me most is that the UK mags haven't really liked the z06. Damping doesn't work too well on our roads they claim. I was surprised after all the glowing US reviews.

Saw a pro driver at Willow Springs, with a stock pre-production C6Z06 pulling fast times between 1:32 & 1:35 on stock tires, which is right around the same times as a stock GT3 with pro driver...

Stoptech and Brembo are the only makers of brakes and only one manf. of pads exist. Guy at HPT was boiling fluid a few weeks ago and was rather pissed. Frankly, I would be disapointed as a owner if Chevy knew about these issues and let the car out the door from BowlingGreen. Great car but they dropped the ball..............
