Losing enthusiasm for the GT3

Losing enthusiasm for the GT3
Knowing that Porsche has always moved the game forward with performance, the 997 chassis is no exception. The 997 Cup cars are reputed to be notably faster than our 996s. I also like the 997S, but passed on it b/c it just isn't as good a track tool. . my thought is that the 997 GT3 will combine the best virtues of the 996 GT3 and the 997S.
Of late, thinking that the 997 GT3 will be here in the US in a year, I found myself losing enthusiasm for the 996. In other words, I'm thinking that the 996 may be a short term relationship and not a 'keeper'. So, I have Motons that have not been installed, just sitting in my office, and I've held off ordering the bar/seats/harnesses I was planning on.
I think I'm psycho. Please talk sense into me.

How do you feel about a manual tranny vs. sequential DSG? Rumors are that the 997GT3 will only come with DSG. If so, would you be more or less inclined to sell the 996GT3?

I don't think the 997 GT3 will be that much of an upgrade from your current ride. Your engine is way better for one, the 997gt3 will have a crappy wet sump m97 motor and probably a lot of dumbed down street stuff that you're not gonna like (sunroof, nav system, etc). Live for the here and now, put in the bar and don't worry about the 997's 'till they are actually out.

I saw some spy shots and rumors here and on rennteam, hope I'm wrong but don't think I am. Porsche just wants to sell cars, if they sell a few more bc of the creature comforts they will. I think they have a lot tied up in the m97 3.8 and that's what you will see in the street 997GT3. In an RS version, who knows.

Frayed,
The 997 GT3 will not cure your fickleness, no criticism intended, just empathy.
The 997 GT3 is thought to have around 410 HP, the true "dry sump" motor, and will have a base price of around $110K (time will tell if this "informed speculation" is correct).
So the real question is:
Are the differences worth about $25K round trip to switch from one to the other.
The answer is:
It's impossible to tell right now.
The solution is:
Keep driving the 996 GT3, because if the 997 GT3 really is much better, you'll appreciate all the practice to take full advantage of it.
And then it will start all over about the 998 GT3 (what no dry sump?)..such is fickleness!

Well if you've lost interest...I think I would really need to understand why.
If its about ultimate performance, even if at mosport, if you are doing 1:29 all day, how much faster do you expect the extra horses to give you? If you are not that fast, then you will not even notice.
As for looks, the 997GT3 pics I have seen are nice, but is the differnece between a 996 and 996GT3 the same, less, or more than the diff between a 996GT3 or 997GT3? Time will tell, but certainly if your lease is due, or your car is tired, then the only way to get new GT3 will be a 997.
I'll wait and see and compare after they start to hit the track.
One things for sure, if the 997GT3 adds playstation paddles and PSM, then I will be very happy with what I have, even if a 997GT3 is faster with a computer thinking for the driver.

Three Wheelin'
I'm speechless. I think I would only switch if I knew the car would be a significant upgrade. But I really don't think anyone but professional drivers will be able to tell the difference. If I really wanted to upgrade and feel a major difference, I would buy a CGT. Then the difference would be unmistakable. Call me crazy, I could of waited, but I had a hunch that the new 997 GT3 will not be as much as a drivers car as the 996. I could be wrong, but I absolutely love my ride. To me, she might as well be the babe in Youngster's avatar. "I ain't tradin' her in for nuttin."
