In regards to having these things made up special, the threads are rolled not cut, the heads are forged, and the entire bolt is stress relieved and hardened. Thats where a lot of the cost is. Might be too complicated for a small shop to do?

Doesnt it weigh 10 lbs or so? More like fiberglass with "carbon look". Or just a wet lay up carbon/fabric/resin contraption. Dont get me started. You say you got six guys interested in paying $600 a set for lug bolts? Why not get six more guys, pool that money and get a tool made to cure genuine pre-preg hoods with? I will source the composites house to do the lay-up and run the project through in exchange for two hoods and the rights to make as many more as I want off the tool.
You would save about 30-40 times more weight than you would with the lug bolts.
I'm serious.

Just get the cup car parts from Gert; less headaches and less money than developing a new product. Porsche makes very nice carbon parts. It would take at least 15-20 guys to post at least 2k in order to pull off a good part. But the upside is that once you cut the tool you can make many more and possibly break even or make a profit.
The big question is always: how many people with a GT3 will buy a 2k hood?
When I was working at a certain race car manufacturer I learned of a fiasco that had occurred before I was there. The president was friends with a high end car dealer who convinced him to build complete sets of carbon fiber body panels for Diablo's to convert them to what would essentially be a Diablo GT. He swore up and down that he had 20 or so buyers lined up to do the conversion. The pesisdent went ahead and ordered the parts made: were talking hoods, decklids, rockers, door panels inside and out, quatrerpanels, fully engineered products from start to finish. Autoclave tools made from carbon, stress simulations run for all connecting hardware, these parts are GORGEOUS and weigh NOTHING. They were lighter and better looking than the actual Diablo GT parts! Anyway, 400k later and a dozen sets made, the dealer starts to shrink away from his initial contention of having the buyers in line. Long story short, those featherlite F1 quality parts are still collecting dust in the stockroom. If anyone here has a friend with a 98-00 Diablo who is interested, they could buy a set for a song.

Johannes,
I have been told that these are produced by the same people who made the CF bonnets for the GT3RS.Therefore should be very good.
Not sure about costs.
Probably best to contact them direct at www.cargraphic.de

Yep you gotta get the full roll cage to utilize the carbon fiber doors but they are a beauty. Why don't I have enough extra dough to buy a cupcar and keep my street GT3 : (. Regards. Mike
