Probablly between 1-2 lbs per wheel (aprox. 50% of steel), times 4 for unsprung weight, gives you 4-8 equivilant lbs weight saved per wheel, 16-32 lbs total. It all adds up, bling or not.

Huh?

My math may be a little rusty, but here goes...

Weight savings equals 37g per lugnut x 5/wheel = 185g per wheel or .4 lbs

Total savings in unsprung weight = 1.6 lbs for the whole cars.

Conclusion...a lot of $$$ to save 1.6 lbs

The effective weight loss ratio of unsprung vs. sprung weight is approx 1 to 4 ,
or if you loose 1 lb of unsprung weight it is effectively similar to loosing 4 lbs of weight sprung.
There are folks that spend 6,000 dollars for a european exhaust system to gain maybe 4-5 HP and gain a little weight. There are folks that spend $220 for a set of chromed lug bolts. None of this makes too much sense to me aside from the fact that it makes them happy and they feel good in doing it. It makes their car a bit different and an expressive extension of themselves. There in lies the value, not a couple of grams here or there. And I do not condem them for doing so, that is "stupid"..

Apparently Ferrari does because the Stradale comes stock with them.

QuarterMile:

I expend more than that on useless things.

1.713 lbs. total weight savings. I lose more weight than that when I empty my bladder; unsprung or not. Not worth it IMO. Especially when you consider how you have to worry about them cracking, corroding, and seizing on you.

Theres enough to think about with a 100k+ car already without having to worry about LUG BOLTS. I'll spend my money on race gas and track time thank you very much.

Oh yeah, I have a lot of experience with aerospace and automotive hardware and those are WAY overpriced. If I thought it was worth a look I could source them at less than one third that price; but it's not worth it, so I won't bother. At $380.00 you are paying mostly for the graphics and a nice finish.

Well, 1.6lbs unsprung is roughly like taking out your tool kit or like a gallon of water. Problem is you need to keep hydrated on the track Modern high performance cars (CGT, Enzo, 360 CS) ship with these already and soon all the M3 guys will have them on the track while you are running your 19th century lug bolts.

I assume you will do a post if you are able to work something out, if not add my name to the list of interested parties.

I think the main reason to buy these is because they are cool, and a work of art, not because you feel removing 6.6 oz from near the center of rotation of the wheel will improve your lap times.

Different brands of tires weigh pounds differently than other brands and this is weight removed from well away from the center of rotation where it really counts and nobody ever complains about their car slowing down because of heavier tires.

1.73 lb wheel bolt savings do not amount to a gallon of water, which weights just over EIGHT lbs. You guys are spending $380 for WHEEL BOLTS? That's a track day. Learning to drive will make you faster than a 2 lb savings. Titanium in general, is overrated. The strongest metal man can make is NOT titanium, but Steel (1780 MPa, and AlLi (1400+ MPa.) Titanium comes in distant third at 1200. The real advantage to Titanium is its resistance to corrosion at high temperatures, (above 2500 F) and its abnormally high melting point, neither of which your cars will see in the engine, let alone the wheel bolts.

This is an all show, no go mod.

Don't the GT3 internals use titanium? Might those interals feel happier with some additional titanium on the car?

Maybe we can do a group buy on titanium pinky rings too...aren't they an option on the new Vette?
